This is the single 750M model... And the "Gaming laptop" is a 770M.
You do realise this is an 800 dollar laptop right?
-
-
If you add the SLI addon card (which will be availible soon) it will reach the levels of the 770m -
i have a monster desktop so i just wanted a laptop for my couch/bed ( 70% of my pc expirience when i m home ) to replace my m11x r2 thats why i also got the Ergostand II. So for my rpg and work needs is just fine i guess... for now...
-
Also, it doesnt get that hot on the bottom, the major heat goes through the side vent so having it on your lap isnt that bad. -
Yea i m still waiting, i m just assuming its ok for my needs. i replaced my m11x for heating problems and it started throtling waaay too easy on the latest mmorpgs i m playing.
I got the ergostand cause i found it very comfort with the way i m sitting in bed. Also cooling is a plus. -

Hi Jobine, you forgot to include the screenshot of the hwinfo32 sensor temps of your cpu/gpu of min/max after 3dmark11.
-
Brb. -
-
Those temperatures are perfect!
-
However, after 2 hours of running Dolphin EMU 720p with AA (uses 100% of the CPU and 90% of the GPU at all times), i the side went will get a little hot -
Your very thorough review has convinced me that this is the best laptop for me.
I was honestly just a click away from putting $400 to get the Y510p at newegg. Newegg.com - Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p (59375627) Intel Core i7 16GB Memory 1TB HDD 24GB SSD 15.6" Notebook Windows 8
However! After reading your review, I was convinced that I do not need a mega-powerful, bigger, and smaller battery life laptop for my college living these next 3 years, and instead, I could just take that $400 and put it into a PS4 if I really desire to play great looking 1080p games.
So to you sir, nice job and thanks! -
-
"2. Glossy, matte screens are only found on the Y510P, and are dimmer and have more dull colors, Y410P glossy screen is one of the brighter gaming laptops"
So you're saying the Y410 900 screen is better than the Y510 1080 screen?
I have the Y400 and hate the display. It's dim and very muted. Also the lack of optimus kills the battery for normal surfing.
Giving serious thought of grabbing the Y410, the only downside is side heat vent blowing on the wife. lol
Which has me also eyeing the Asus N550-JV-DB71 $940 (rear heat vent like MBP) and can easily swap to an intel AC wifi card. -
. My screen turned out to be vivid colored with no dead pixels, but with a nice glare to it ahaha.
But i have to confirm it does have OptimusiHD 4.6k works like a charm.
However, im pretty sure Y400 is still decently powerful by today's standards, i think it's best you wait a few years to get another laptop lol. Y410P is basically a Y400 with a few extra features, but all in all they are almost the same laptops.
After purchasing an ASUS mobo 2 years ago + recently hearing that a friend's ASUS gaming laptop completely died on him, i lost all my trust for that company, coupled with their poor customer serivce that makes Dell look like saints. That's my opinion, however. -

Added some Viewing Angles! -
Hey jobine702 you were the reason I bought the y410p
3), but I'm not exactly getting the performance that you described, BF3 at 1366x768 at ultra. Would you have any clue why? I'm not sure I have all my drivers up to date, but my Nvidia driver most defiently is. I'm not that tech-savvy, sorry
. Can you help me with this?
-
Single 750M is not enough to run BF3 ultra with AA. You will need the SLI addon for that, which, to my knowledge, is unavailible at the time.
Also, if youre having issues with Ultra, shoot down to High. I use High for multiplayer, and Ultra for Campaign. You never know what happens in MP.
EDIT: That aside, are you happy with the device? -
Yeah I was playing with AA off and I was in Game Booster mode and I was using the nvidia card. Do other drivers effect the performance while gaming? Aside from that I'm quite satisfied with my buy. The fans are quite nice as are with the speakers and performance. The touch pad and key board are alright. Only thing I can complain about is the glossy screen and how the area around the touch pad get fingerprints on it quite easily. Also, I'm not sure if I should be worried about the area right under the screen (in front of the power button and keyboard) being making cracking noises when I press down on it?
-
Someone said you had to press it down hard enough until it clicks (remove the battery first) but be careful while doing this, i don't know if this is the right solution. -
Alright I'll try that later, thanks. Also how much frames per second do you get while running BF3 on your setting on saw a 64 player server? Thanks again
-
Ill benchmark tomorrow. -
Hey, I am considering this laptop for university. I am just wondering is the laptop really thick and hard to carry around. and when you said you can get up to 5 hours of battery life, is that on the lowest brightness setting or??
Thanks for the review. -
Generally, battery life for light tasks using the Intel Card is 3-5 hours. -
Hey jobine, I just took a 3dmark benchmark, and my scores are as following NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4700MQ,LENOVO 20216 (3DMark, not 3DMark 11 if that makes a difference)
My system score is more then 1000 points lower then yours. Any clue why? I'll post 3DMark 11 scores in a min -

NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4700MQ,LENOVO 20216
Here are the 3DMark11 benchmarks and the score is lower, any clue why? -
Bloatware + Possibly outdated drivers. Thats my bet. Are you using High-Performance in the battery settings?
I got ~2800 you got ~2300. Odd. Note that my laptop is not overclocked. -
No, I was using balanced. Does it matter that much? I'll use PC Decrapifier to delete some bloatware. I have my Nvidia drivers updated, is there anything else that matters?
-
Alright, I've removed the bloatware that PC Decrap suggested and set power mode to high performance, will test again, will keep you updated.
Edit okey, the scores actually decreased after setting it to high performance.

Lol. Are you on battery or on AC?
-
I'm on the AC
-
-
Hey I just noticed something, when on my results, the processor information says the processor clock is 0 Mhz and the Physical / logical processor used are 1/8. This isn't right is it? or is it just some mistake with 3dmark
-
-
Bump.
Apparently this thread is an Editors pick.
Yay. -
However, it does look like there is something up with your CPU, it is your physics score that is too low. See my results here: NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-4700MQ,LENOVO 20216
My Physics score: 7473, yours is 4238.
Your GPU score is close, just a bit lower prob because of the CPU being slower.
As to what is causing it, could be a number of things.
I would start with installing the latest chipset drivers from Intel: https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Se...=Intel®+Chipset+Software+Installation+Utility
My guess is turbo mode is not working and/or the CPU is throttling due to heat.
Download CPU-Z, run that and see what speeds the CPU is running at: CPU-Z CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting -
Yep. I can confirm Somethingcool is right, i got over 8k on mine, and i'm using latest chipset drivers.
Also, try not to let background Windows 8 apps use CPU power, people often forget to turn these off. Windows Update could also be a factor.
I should run the benchmark again now that i theoretically have a GT755M  -
What's the laptop chassis made from?
Plastic or metal? -

I got the first y410p, and it was nice..... But, the wirless droping issues made it terrible, and I tried everything, well almost, I didn't try "downgrading" the drivers, forgot about that, and sadly I didn't see this thread, even though I did a lot of research before hand, and did know of the wireless issues, but since it seemed like not everyone was having them, I would take a chance, but I lost.
I didn't however like the 14 inch screen at all.... Being a full sized laptop, they could have easily stuck a 15 on there, infact there is the space for it also, they just added more "border" to the border of the screen making it smaller, how dumb. Anyway, go the 15 route. Only go 14 if your're really getting an actual smaller portable laptop.
Anyway, I returned it for those issues, and I got an Acer, sadly got shafted with the same wireless dropping issue, and was even a different card, it was like the same defective manufacturer made the two laptops, and it had a bad webcam (grainy from 10 years ago kind), thus I couldn't win. I'm now just going to go with the Sager NP8295 and then upgrade it as I go. You also can't upgrade much or as easy in the Lenovo. I had hopes, thought it was the best deal in the world, but quality sucks these days. -
Anyways, tough luck. Most reliable Wifi Cards ive seen are older Wireless-G cards, ironically.
That Sager weighs 9 pounds, have fun.kirkydaturkey likes this. -
just jabbing ya!
Well, I haven't heard of any issues with some of the others out there. I think it just really depends.
Also, I don't like the fact that we couldn't choose our wireless card. They really should have a "dual-band" option.
And, I really don't like that they haven't removed that card from their laptops, since it is clearly defective.
Anyway.... I think I really would haven liked this laptop if I went with the 15 inch option, or especially if they had a 17 inch one, they gave us wireless card options, they gave us options to add SSD's, and they of course replaced their current wireless card. Oh, and what is the deal with the 25GB "storage" drive? They don't even tell you that either, they give you the impression you can have it as the OS drive, but no, it's a basically useless storage drive. -
If you order by phone you can tell them to ship it with a Wireless AC card. As for the 2230, the card isn't defective, the driver is. And the Y series isn't the only laptop with this card. This is probably one of the most common wifi cards out there.
Where do they say the OS is on the 24GB? Anyone should know that Windows 8 will never fully fit on 24GB without intense slimming, and anyone who wants to productively use an OS should at least reserve 64GB to the OS space. 24GB drives *are* made for caching. -
Thanks for a very informative review and thread. I'm considering getting one, but have a few questions:
1. I'm considering buying a 2.5" SSD separately, installing that internally as the main drive, then moving the included HDD into an ultrabay as a second drive. Since the ultrabay is not bootable, can I make this work in terms of installing the OS on the SSD before swapping? I'm looking to end up with a clean install of the OS on the SSD.
2. If I do that, then is there any benefit still to getting the 24GB m.2 ssd option?
3. Right now I see a weekly deals sale. Is this on sale very frequently? I don't have to buy it now, but if the sale is good I'd like to pick it up.
