I just ordered 4.8g of IC Diamond for my Y410p. I will be posting before and after results in this thread, anyone have any specific benchmarks they want me to run? The repaste will happen in 2 days, Wish me luck!

Sweet. Before you repaste, can you run some benchmarks, both with stock and overclock? Then run them afterwards? I wanna see what difference repasting the laptop could do, i think i have some spare Cooler Master paste somewhere in my closet.

First of all, grab ThrottleStop 6.00 Beta 1 with Haswell support to take CPU throttling out of the equation and make it a fair test. Use these settings:

I would like to see the following tests done:

    1. 3DMark 11 Performance (P) Preset, 3 times in a row with no cooldown in between
    2. Unigine Heaven loop for 30 minutes, at max settings:
      Heaven.jpg
    3. OCCT Power Supply Test at the following settings. This is an endurance test. The point is to see how long you can last before thermal shutdown, because it will kick both CPU and GPU to 100% simultaneously and the one-fan cooling design will not be able to keep that heat output in check indefinitely.
      OCCT.PNG

These three tests should cover a wide range of usage scenarios that the average person might run into when running system-intensive tasks. 3DMark 11 stresses both CPU and GPU but doesn't max out either, Heaven maxes out only GPU, and OCCT is a worst-case scenario that maxes out both CPU and GPU simultaneously.

Please tell us what your maximum CPU and GPU temperatures are after each of the tests, both before and after repaste, and make sure to reset temperatures in between different tests. Also, if you are overclocking, please note that as well and tell us the clock speeds.

Thanks a bunch. It should be very interesting to see how temperatures have changed as more powerful components have been added to this chassis. My guess is that they have increased since the very first Ivy Bridge/650M model, but we'll see.

Ok I will be running 3dmark 2 times in a row, and Heaven for 30 minutes, but I will not run OCCT. I am not comfortable forcing a thermal shutdown of my laptop.

    Update:
I got scores of 3dmark, Im using the free version (sorry)
I am getting new temps with Furmark, Prime95 and Heavenly now.

Fair enough, although to be clear the whole point of thermal shutdown is to prevent damage to your laptop, so it's not a bad thing. I don't know what the situation is like on the Y510p, but on the Y500 Lenovo was very conservative and set a premature thermal shutdown at 105C, which is actually supposed the be the thermal throttling temperature and 25C lower than the shutdown temperature Intel specifies for mobile Ivy Bridge.

Make sure you are using 3DMark 11, not the new 3DMark (2013). The free Basic Edition is what everyone else is benching with.

After getting my laptop broke down to do this, I decided not to. I chickened out, didn't want to have to remove the system board from the chassis. Call me a wimp...

Bought a refurb y410p off ebay and just arrived today. Played some CS:GO and CPU temps reached 99, while GPU sat around 94. Cracked it open and repasted with DYNEX compound ($11 at best buy not the "high end stuff") booted up CS again and CPU is now hovering around 87 and GPU is still high around 94. I do have pictures of the whole process and how much paste I used etc. if anyone is interested. Questions, comments, constructive criticism and such are always welcome

Oh wow, this is relatively recent.

Hm, those temps seem high for CS:GO, I get 95's on both when playing Battlefield 3 with a decent framerate. I feel as if gaming laptops still aren't suited to reach that level of gaming a desktop can match, so it's quite disappointing. As with the design of the Y410P, because of the space for the ultrabay, it uses two heatpipes with one fan to dissipate heat, not ideal to me at all.

But hey, I'm gonna do a repaste job with some Arctic Silver 5 tomorrow, I can't bear to even feel the heat on my arm let alone know my laptop is dying haha ;D
