Contacted Lenovo, they didn't seem to have any clue about the ultra bay 750m. The first person I spoke with didn't even know what SLI was, and was trying to tell me that the Y510p SLI model had the same video card as my Y410p. I had to explain to them that it in fact had 2 750m video cards. I have seen on NBR that the SLI ultrabay will be released in August, but I have also seen that it is not coming out at all. Does anyone have any solid information about it? If it is infact not coming out, I may try to buy a Y510p version and mod it for the Y410p.

Im with you on this one. I called Lenovo, they said sometime in August.

Also, i always thought the Y5's and Y4's shared the same ultrabay size, guess i was wrong :/

I am also aware that Y400 650M cards are availible.

I'm looking into the Y410p as a potential business PC, with the option of playing games occasionally. Most business laptops are not suitable for playing a game, and most gaming laptops have features like lit-up eyes on the lid, multicolor led keyboards, etc. which make it awkward to use in business meetings. I thought the Y410p was 'business casual' enough and seems to have enough oompf to play a game once in a while. So, what's up with these ultrabays? Are they different between the 510p and 410p? I'd really like to be able to swap the CD drive for an extended battery, or an SLI video card... Did anyone solve this?

Ill give Lenovo a call sometime this week. Also, if you turn the backlighting off, this laptop is not that flashy, it's basically a Black Z400. You can still tell however than it is not a Business laptop, but if your workplace can allow Z400's and Flashy MacBook pro's, they might allow the Y410p if you turn the backlighting off. I still do however recommend a business laptop for work, but that's just me.

For the ultrabays, the Y410P and Y400 use the same ultrabay size. Also, the Y500 and Y510p use the same ultrabay size, which is different than the one in the 14 inchers. There are 650M cards, only avalible with Y500/Y400, and there are 750M cards, that work with Y400/Y410P/Y510p/Y500.

However, the 750M bays for the Y400 and Y410p are not availible at this time, hopefull the Lenovo rep will give me a good release date.

Here is my chat I just had 2 minutes ago with a rep concerning the release date:

Please wait while we connect with you with a Lenovo Chat Representative.
You have been connected to ^Mohd.mubeen Mubeen.
Thank you for contacting Lenovo Sales Chat. My name is Mubeen and my Rep ID is 2900713393. Happy to help you today.
    Hello Josh.
    Hi
    How are you today?
    good
I purchased a Lenovo Y410P laptop from you a while back for its dual graphics capabilities. I've since done some research and there seems to be some confusion about whether an ultrabay graphics solution will ever be released for the Y410P. Can you tell me if and when the ultrabay 750m graphics will be released for the Y400 series
According to the latest updates it should be available in the second week of sept.
Great is there a price point?
    $229 will be the price.
Thank you so much for clearing that up
    My pleasure.
That's the only question I have today, thanks
To ensure that we are always improving our service, you may receive a survey invitation at the end of the chat session to tell us what you think about our products and services. Your feedback will be highly appreciated.
Thank you for contacting Lenovo Sales Chat. You have a good one..
    You too
Thank you for contacting Lenovo. You may now close this window.

The question I asked was copied from someone else who stated the the rep they spoke with said there was no release whatsoever coming for it. So if the question looks familiar that is why.

Ordered a 410p after looking around and seeing Jobine's posts. Hopefully we get a solid date soon about the ultrabay 750. I'll call them this week and double check.

Only thing i fear is them possibly updating models to 755M bays and then only releasing the 755M bays. Fortunately, 755M's are just OC'd 750M's, so there *might* be some compatiblity.

However, seeing that the Lenovo rep mentioned the Second week of September gave me a little hope, because it is the 3rd time a rep told me that date.

    Fingers crossed.

I could care less about the SLI to be honest, I'd rather keep the single gddr5 gt 750m with optimus and optical drive w/o the complications of SLI micro stuttering etc... shorter battery life.

I know, but sometimes, a single 750M doesnt always cut it, SLI 750M = ~770M, as for the battery life, just take out the extra 750M when you dont need it.

Woah, I just ordered my ideaPad 410p, are you saying they might soon upgrade their GPU?

Should I cancel my order and wait for the upgrade?

GDDR5 GT 750m at 900p is more than enough to game on high settings. Now if it's a slow ddr3 gt 750m then that's a different story since the ddr3 version is about 20-25% slower than gddr5. At best we will probably only see 5-10% performance increase on the gt 755m over the gddr5 gt 750m.

Nah. Unless you really care about a 40mhz overclock that you could always do yourself. The difference in FPS is like 5% tops.

This is true, but the single 750m at 100% usage brings my temps sky rocketing. I played Rise of the Triad 2013 for a few hours at a friend's house a few weeks ago, my temps were uncontrollable, I had to borrow a laptop cooler just to keep my temps safe. If I were able to run SLI it would alleviate the heat buildup on the single heatsink, allowing for lower temps on my CPU as well. That is worth it to me. I hate running at upwards of 90C when playing games for a few hours.

That might be true if SLI takes some of the load off the main GPU, in less demanding games for example, but for games that push both cards to 100% both will run hot. Repasting and using a good cooler are your best bets for lowering temperatures. Above 90C is getting into the danger zone because throttling starts at 97C.

Does a 755M even have a 16W TDP? I can't even find the TDP on the spec page of this card: GeForce GT 755M | Description | GeForce, and ive yet to see a laptop that actually has the card.

I think legal action needs to be taken place. I and along with everyone here bought this based on their product specification claiming that the Ultrabay graphics would be available. Either provide the graphics card, or exchange out for for Y510P. I don't know about everyone here but I feel very angered with how they've treated us and lied to us. I've tried contacting them dozens of times. Their sales staff are ignorant and know nothing about when it will be released. Just today he told me its guaranteed for next week. I was told that 2 weeks before and 2 weeks before that two. They are clearly playing games as they realize they have dug themselves into a hole. Tried contacting them by email hoping to get a better, more educated response regarding the issue yet was in the end ignored. I received 2 of the 5 times i've emailed them a response apologizing for the delayed response and telling me a supervisor would look into it and contact me. Never got a real response. The other 3 times I emailed them I was completely ignored. I'm fed up. This clearly isn't legal and I think this should be stopped. If anyone else here is experiencing this I think we should all join up and make one case. My email is [email protected]. Don't hesitate email me and let's discuss possible solutions.

has anyone heard anything new about this? I just got a new 410p with the 750M and would love to find this ultrabay addon...
Are we absolutely sure that the Y 15" GT750M5 on the lenovo site will not work with the y410p??

The y400 could possibly become the most powerful 14inch laptop if this is the case. Based on what I read through that forum it looks fairly straight forward with some modification.

though temperatures seem to be quite high so there will need to be modifications to compensate for the extra heat sump into the machine. Time to do more research to see if this notebook can fit my needs first before getting my hopes up on the GPU grunt possibilities.

I think Ill switch to the Y410p as it has the same fundamental versatility as the y510p. Games would be usually played at 16*9 anyways to help with the bottom line so this is a welcome native resolution. Plus the base price is much lower than the y510p. I'll likely be making my purchasing decision soon. Just a matter of timing

vBIOS would likely be flashed to match the modern cards anyways to achieve higher overclocks. If it doesnt work I can still sell it later anyways

Now time to take a look at the differences in dimensions for the GN36 / GN35

Just spoke with the CSR, take this with a grain of salt.

You have been connected to *Sarah L.
*Sarah : Thank you for choosing Lenovo Sales. This is Sarah (Rep ID
Me : Good Afternoon, I have been looking at the Y410P (Y400 series). though before making a purchase I have been waiting for more news on the UltraBay Graphics expansion
    *Sarah : okay
*Sarah : well unfortunatley we don't have teh 2nd graphics card in the Y410p
*Sarah : I'm very sorrry abou tthat
*Sarah : only in the Y510p
Me : That is unfortunate, then why is there a Y400 GPU expansion in the accessories?
*Sarah : so that is actually for the Y510p. I'm very sorry it is mislabeled, I know how frustrating that is
*Sarah : but unfortunatley it is for the Y510p
Me : Are there any plans to have the expansion for the y410p? I dont mind waiting if that is all that is needed
*Sarah : not that I know of unfortuantley
*Sarah : are you totally opposed to the Y510p
Me : I plan to travel from U.S. to Korea at undetermined times as I plan to become a contractor soon for IT Support
Me : I wanted to have the GPU power while still having a smaller form factor in planes and such or smaller apartments
    *Sarah : hmm
    *Sarah : I understand
*Sarah : do you need that extended graphics feature
Me : I liked the versatility, gaming is a good stress reliever for me lol. However the ultrabay port is everything I needed in a laptop. I also planned to purchase the hard drive bay as well, I also practice my work in Virtual Machines daily so the space is also needed for when Im not playing games
Me : The smaller base price of 800 was also a huge selling point for me
*Sarah : right that is true
*Sarah : well to suffice, I an see if I can help any more with the pricing
*Sarah : but unfortunately we do not offer the extra graphics card with the Y410p

Screw what the reps say, most of them are just plain inconsistent. Get the modded BIOS (assuming you are running V2 or earlier), buy the 650M GN35, pop it in, head to Y400 drivers, install the Win 8.1 650M fix (alternatively downgrade to W8/W7), then install Ember's dSLI to get the cards to play nice. If it fails, send the card back for a full refund.

Well Ill likely be getting the y410p soon, though the card will have to likely wait until I get back from Korea, unless you think I should just pick it up over there? The model offered in Korea doesnt have 1600*900 according to the site

Lenovo stopped working conveniently until the duration of the coupon expired. So the price shot up 200. Unless it changes in the future I might be looking at other laptops now
