Because everyone seems to have similar questions I took a bunch of pictures of my Y410p. I have pictures of the screen, keyboard, all sides, and the insides with close ups of each component that I could get to. I hope this helps.

How to disassemble Y410p
Release battery lock, pull battery release, remove battery
Release ultrabay lock, pull ultra bay release, remove ultrabay
Remove the 8 screws
Remove bottom panel, it is cliped on, use firm pressure and get as close to the pins as you can, if it is stuck check to make sure you got all 8 screws
-
Inside the Y410p part 2
M.2 NGFF Slot
Capacitor and shell blocking longer cards
Official length is 42mm, there is maybe about 50mm total clearance in the slot, no way you're fitting a 60mm or 80mm into this.

Temperature Readings
All temps taken with Speedfan. Laptop was placed on a flat hard surface, nothing obstructing the exhaust port. Power was plugged in, set to "Balanced" power plan.

Nice job man!
-
Awesome! Very useful stuff.
-
Thanks guys.
-
Thanks for sharing this information !
-
I see some grainy stuff above the mountains. Does it really look like that or it's just on the picture?
How much do you think will the temps go if room temp is +/- 30C?
Thanks! -
I don't have a great camera, but no it doesn't look that bad in person. As for temps, I believe you just add it flat, its pretty linear.
-
Thick bezel thick bezel, did i just said thick bezel.
Nice pic showing the m2. -
In terms of the thick bezel, and a previous question about performance in warmer rooms, my 410p's bezel melted and bulged the other day in a 90 degree room while running a couple of virtual machines (Win 7 and Win XP). The bulge is about a 1/2 inch to the right of the Lenovo decal at the bottom of the panel. I love this machine, but see where the cost savings is (clips holding on the bottom cover, thick bezel with a heat-sensitive plastic, etc.).
Edit: To AGoff: Thank you for taking the time and doing such a great job documenting this laptop!! -
Ok, thanks.
Aw. That might be a problem. Maybe underclocking could help prevent this? -
thanks man. good job.
-
Man, I'm bummed to see the ram is a 2x4 configuration. I was hoping for a 1x8 for a cheap upgrade.
-
Sweet! Looking forward to replacing the 1tb HDD with a 120gb SSD
-
Is the keyboard that bright without the backlighting on?
-
Not sure I understand the question. No when theres no backlighting, there's no light to be bright...
-
By lighting you do mean backlighting or room lighting? Could you post a picture with the keyboard backlight completely off?
-
Ah ok, yeah sure here you go, I've ran out of room on my attachments
https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B-nX0vkqkDdJWFBFZU1jbmMxLWs/edit?usp=sharing -
thanks for this!
I googled for NGFF and saw this
if i cut that that in half (and assuming it fits, considering the cap) it should fit in to the slot
thanks! -
uh, try it and take pics
-
Why does the laptop have stripes? I thought it came in jet black...
-
it's skinned with something to look like carbon fiber
-
Thats odd, i swear the 500/510p models dont have this...
-
Nice troll attempt. That ADATA is an 80mm M.2 drive while the Y410p/Y510p will only accept the smallest form factor, 42mm. So far the biggest 42mm drives I have seen only go up to 64GB, but I have heard that 128GB may be available too. Why don't you buy that drive, cut it in half, and plug it in? Great way to waste $500.
It's always been that way. The Y400/Y410p have a carbon fiber finish while the Y500/Y510p have a brushed aluminum finish. -
Thanks for clearing that up, just checked on the lenovo site and youre right, derp on my fault.
-
The 410p has a carbon fiber finish, but it feels 100% like plastic.
-
Well real carbon fiber does feel a lot like plastic. Dead and hollow-sounding when you tap on it. But of course it's not real carbon fiber, that would be one heck of an expensive laptop.
Is it at least metal underneath the faux carbon fiber finish? That would suck if it were plastic. On the Y500 it's actually aluminum. -
So thats why the 400s are ~100$ cheaper than the 500s...
-
I don't think it's that. I think it's the 1080p screen and some other additional things that raise the price of the Y500 slightly. If the Y400 had the exact same specs as the Y500 in a smaller chassis it would actually be more expensive.
-
Edit: Nvm, youre right, y410p is actually more expensive without the coupons
(the 110$ difference is caused by a 450$ coupon (410p) vs a 340$ coupon(510p)) -
@jobine, those coupons are bull. Lenovo does that to make it seem like the deals are temporary when in reality, there's a new one every week. The 510p is more costly than the 410p period.
-
Im aware of that =b
-
Welp, your sarcasm in those posts went undetected =(
-
erm, im not really trying to troll. i think i made a poor choice of words
. I was just trying to confirm if the y410p has the slot shown that would match the adata ssd because I can't seem to match it with the picture shown.
-
Wait a year and NGFF will be the new mSSD standard. Thats what you get for buying a new technology laptop. Heck, June 2013 and i havent seen any other Haswell laptops aside from the Macbook Air and this one Dell model.
-
Does anyone know if the GT750m is an MXM card or soldered on the mobo?
-
It is on the mobo. Look at the pictures here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/ideapad-essential/701037-y500-disassembled-pictures.html
-
Can you take a picture of your power brick in comparison to the laptop?
Sent from my HTC One using Tapatalk 4 Beta -
-
Anyone got the battery life estimate doing under normal load (some youtube, net surfing)?
-
With the iGPU, with power saver mode, at 100% battery, with mid brightness you can expect 3-5 hours.
-
XOTIC PC | Sager NP7352 (Clevo W350ST)
Since Lenovo hiked the price of the SSD version, the above looks like a more attractive option, better graphics by far -
Considering i only paid less for my Y410p, im not complaining. Was on sale for 830$ CAD and i used an extra coupon (which doesnt work now) to shoot it down to roughly 800.
But yeah, i find it wierd that the same model is now 1 Grand :/ -
Is it just me or does it take like 10-20 seconds for the laptop to realize that a device ( my Galaxy S3 ) is connected through USB and show up under "My Computer"? Like the phone shows that it is connected, but it just takes a bit of time to show that its connected on the computer.
-
I plug in my HTC phone and it's immediately recognized. Maybe it is installing the driver?
-
Hmm, which driver would that be? But other than my phone, it'll recognize my usb mouse, or usb flash drive pretty much immediately. Anything I should try doing?
