Because everyone seems to have similar questions I took a bunch of pictures of my Y410p. I have pictures of the screen, keyboard, all sides, and the insides with close ups of each component that I could get to. I hope this helps.

Official length is 42mm, there is maybe about 50mm total clearance in the slot, no way you're fitting a 60mm or 80mm into this.

    Temperature Readings

All temps taken with Speedfan. Laptop was placed on a flat hard surface, nothing obstructing the exhaust port. Power was plugged in, set to "Balanced" power plan.

    Ambient Room Temperature: 70F (21.1C)

    Base temps:
    Clock: .. 0.8GHz
    GPU: ... 35C
    HDD: ... 27C
    Core 0: 26C
    Core 1: 26C
    Core 3: 29C
    Core 2: 24C

Tested CPU using Prime95 (Large FFTs) for 20 minutes:
Throttling kicked in after about 5 minutes and dropped temps
    CPU Clock: 3GHz . 2.4 GHz
    Temps: ...... Max. . Throttled
    GPU: ......... 57C ... 57C
    HDD: ......... 31C ... 31C
    Core 0: ...... 72C ... 64C
    Core 1: ...... 75C ... 67C
    Core 2: ...... 73C ... 65C
    Core 3: ...... 72C ... 64C

Tested GPU using Furmark (720p) for 15 minutes:
    Using OEM Lenovo/NVidia drivers (311.41)
    Framerates: Min. 22 Avg. 24 Max. 25
    CPU Clock: 3GHz . 2.4 GHz
    GPU Clock:1058MHz
    Temps: ...... Max.
    GPU: ......... 75C
    HDD: ......... 27C
    Core 0: ...... 58C
    Core 1: ...... 59C
    Core 2: ...... 57C
    Core 3: ...... 57C

Tested CPU and GPU using Prime95 (Large FFTs) and Furmark (720p) for 4 minutes:
CPU throttling kicked in after about 15 seconds I couldn't get a max. temp before it started, CPU dropped to 800MHz at the 4 minute mark and I cancelled the test.
    Using OEM Lenovo/NVidia drivers (311.41)
    Framerates: Min. 20 Avg. 22 Max. 24

I see some grainy stuff above the mountains. Does it really look like that or it's just on the picture?

How much do you think will the temps go if room temp is +/- 30C?

    Thanks!

I don't have a great camera, but no it doesn't look that bad in person. As for temps, I believe you just add it flat, its pretty linear.

In terms of the thick bezel, and a previous question about performance in warmer rooms, my 410p's bezel melted and bulged the other day in a 90 degree room while running a couple of virtual machines (Win 7 and Win XP). The bulge is about a 1/2 inch to the right of the Lenovo decal at the bottom of the panel. I love this machine, but see where the cost savings is (clips holding on the bottom cover, thick bezel with a heat-sensitive plastic, etc.).

Edit: To AGoff: Thank you for taking the time and doing such a great job documenting this laptop!!

Aw. That might be a problem. Maybe underclocking could help prevent this?

By lighting you do mean backlighting or room lighting? Could you post a picture with the keyboard backlight completely off?

I googled for NGFF and saw this [IMG]

if i cut that that in half (and assuming it fits, considering the cap) it should fit in to the slot

    thanks!

Nice troll attempt. That ADATA is an 80mm M.2 drive while the Y410p/Y510p will only accept the smallest form factor, 42mm. So far the biggest 42mm drives I have seen only go up to 64GB, but I have heard that 128GB may be available too. Why don't you buy that drive, cut it in half, and plug it in? Great way to waste $500.
It's always been that way. The Y400/Y410p have a carbon fiber finish while the Y500/Y510p have a brushed aluminum finish.

The 410p has a carbon fiber finish, but it feels 100% like plastic.

Well real carbon fiber does feel a lot like plastic. Dead and hollow-sounding when you tap on it. But of course it's not real carbon fiber, that would be one heck of an expensive laptop.

Is it at least metal underneath the faux carbon fiber finish? That would suck if it were plastic. On the Y500 it's actually aluminum.

I don't think it's that. I think it's the 1080p screen and some other additional things that raise the price of the Y500 slightly. If the Y400 had the exact same specs as the Y500 in a smaller chassis it would actually be more expensive.

Edit: Nvm, youre right, y410p is actually more expensive without the coupons

    (the 110$ difference is caused by a 450$ coupon (410p) vs a 340$ coupon(510p))

@jobine, those coupons are bull. Lenovo does that to make it seem like the deals are temporary when in reality, there's a new one every week. The 510p is more costly than the 410p period.

Wait a year and NGFF will be the new mSSD standard. Thats what you get for buying a new technology laptop. Heck, June 2013 and i havent seen any other Haswell laptops aside from the Macbook Air and this one Dell model.

With the iGPU, with power saver mode, at 100% battery, with mid brightness you can expect 3-5 hours.

Considering i only paid less for my Y410p, im not complaining. Was on sale for 830$ CAD and i used an extra coupon (which doesnt work now) to shoot it down to roughly 800.

But yeah, i find it wierd that the same model is now 1 Grand :/

Is it just me or does it take like 10-20 seconds for the laptop to realize that a device ( my Galaxy S3 ) is connected through USB and show up under "My Computer"? Like the phone shows that it is connected, but it just takes a bit of time to show that its connected on the computer.

Hmm, which driver would that be? But other than my phone, it'll recognize my usb mouse, or usb flash drive pretty much immediately. Anything I should try doing?
