So i've had a y450 for about 5 months now, and its been nothing but problems, and more problems.
at first the computer would just shut off by itelf, without warning, but this was later fixed with a BIOS update
I have begun to realize that this laptop is REALLY flimsy, the screen has several pressure spots about 4-5 mm in diameter and in multiple locations throughout the screen, the speakers begin to crackle at about 50% volume, the hinges of the screen click, the esata port has cracks all around it, ...etc
i honestly do not use this laptop in a rough way or anything like that, i like to take good care of my electronics. but there must be something wrong with this laptop
does anyone know what i can do to get rid of this laptop? will lenovo let me return it for a refund? i also have 1 year accidental damage but apparently this means nothing to lenovo customer support. any help?

You probably just got a bad laptop. Its still covered by warranty; tell Lenovo and they will fix it
-
I would say the best recourse is just to push your case with customer support. Nothing much else you can do.
-
to be honest, i really do not want this laptop anymore. i would rather have them return it and get my money back.

much too late for that. You've had it for almost half a year
-
the escalated claims department has the authority to offer returns on items past the 21 day mark. currently my case is being handled by the escalated claims dept. and i should be receiving a call by next friday

best of luck on that

well this problem has been ongoing since about a month after i received it.. and now the wifi doesnt even work.. what a piece of junk!!!
-
any ideas on what i should say to convince them to let me return it?
-
And be reasonable? Nothing.
What you could do is send it back to Lenovo since it is within the year for a new, non-defective unit and sell that one on ebay. You will not instantly get your money back or even all of it (but you never know you could get more). -
yea i guess i could do that. but to be honest what kind of a laptop self destructs within the first 5 months? its obvious that its defective and all they want to do is "repair it"!! lol
they dont even sell the same model that i originally bought with it. and i actually bought an accidental damage warranty for 1 year so would that make any difference? -
Well you have to give a business a chance to make it right. Repairing it is usually the first step in making it right. The next step is a refund, whether that be store credit or a cash refund.
A laptop that "self-destructs" in a 5 month period is a defective laptop. That is the only suggestion I can give. They do make better Y450s now though. I was in the market for one when it only had the Nvidia 105 GFX Card and now you can get a GT 240. -
I just got off the phone with Lenovo customer support. I told him all of the problems ive been having and he said that hes gonna send a report to tech support to look over the issues and they're gonna send me a box so i can send in the laptop for repair. do you think they will replace it? i have enough problems for them to just leave it and send me a new one but idk if they will
-
bump
any ideas? -
ok so i never got the box after almost 2 weeks.. so i called up tech support and gave the rep the case number.. he kindly told me to call the post sales dept and they could issue a replacement. Why did no one tell me about this earlier?!??! i didnt even know of a post sales dept lol... theyre only open mon-fri so ill have to call them then.. but wth

lol its been 5 months of hell with this laptop and i havent been getting any straight answers from them.. i just want a laptop that works the way it should. is that so much to ask for?
-
FINALLY, lenovo sent me the box so i could send it back to them to get it repaired.. i just shipped out the laptop this morning. i included a big list of the stuff that was wrong with it.. so hopefully they take a look at that list and just give up on it and send me a brand new one lol
-
and the saga continues.... got the laptop back today after 3 weeks.. nothing but problems from the start, now they want me to send it to their "SWAT" team in north carolina so they can see whats wrong with it.. this is really getting ridiculous
