So i've had a y450 for about 5 months now, and its been nothing but problems, and more problems.

at first the computer would just shut off by itelf, without warning, but this was later fixed with a BIOS update

I have begun to realize that this laptop is REALLY flimsy, the screen has several pressure spots about 4-5 mm in diameter and in multiple locations throughout the screen, the speakers begin to crackle at about 50% volume, the hinges of the screen click, the esata port has cracks all around it, ...etc

i honestly do not use this laptop in a rough way or anything like that, i like to take good care of my electronics. but there must be something wrong with this laptop

does anyone know what i can do to get rid of this laptop? will lenovo let me return it for a refund? i also have 1 year accidental damage but apparently this means nothing to lenovo customer support. any help?

You probably just got a bad laptop. Its still covered by warranty; tell Lenovo and they will fix it

I would say the best recourse is just to push your case with customer support. Nothing much else you can do.

the escalated claims department has the authority to offer returns on items past the 21 day mark. currently my case is being handled by the escalated claims dept. and i should be receiving a call by next friday

    And be reasonable? Nothing.

What you could do is send it back to Lenovo since it is within the year for a new, non-defective unit and sell that one on ebay. You will not instantly get your money back or even all of it (but you never know you could get more).

yea i guess i could do that. but to be honest what kind of a laptop self destructs within the first 5 months? its obvious that its defective and all they want to do is "repair it"!! lol

they dont even sell the same model that i originally bought with it. and i actually bought an accidental damage warranty for 1 year so would that make any difference?

Well you have to give a business a chance to make it right. Repairing it is usually the first step in making it right. The next step is a refund, whether that be store credit or a cash refund.

A laptop that "self-destructs" in a 5 month period is a defective laptop. That is the only suggestion I can give. They do make better Y450s now though. I was in the market for one when it only had the Nvidia 105 GFX Card and now you can get a GT 240.

I just got off the phone with Lenovo customer support. I told him all of the problems ive been having and he said that hes gonna send a report to tech support to look over the issues and they're gonna send me a box so i can send in the laptop for repair. do you think they will replace it? i have enough problems for them to just leave it and send me a new one but idk if they will

I have never heard of the post sales department, but my advice is to keep being polite and persistent. Explain the problem and do as they say. Let them try to repair it and then if that doesn't work, they will probably give you a new machine. If you don't like the new machine, or Ideapads in general, then sell it as another poster pointed out.

This is ridiculous, I agree. Have you tried contacting Mark Hopkins(I think he is Lenovo PR rep)? He looks at this site once in a while under the name Mark@Lenovo. He is also on the official Lenovo forums. Send him a message and explain your situation. he is very helpful and has helped many people in your situation.

    feel sorry for you...

if it's still in warranty, they should have it fixed.
