Too bad there are such limited upgrade options, otherwise a great deal.

Go through http://www.lenovo.com/cpp and the employees discount along with the USP15SVEBIG coupon brings the final price to $823.68.

It can be purchased with a 3 Year At-home IdeaPad Warranty with 3 Year Accidental Damage Protection added (regular price $269.00 for only $139.88) using the two different coupon codes mentioned earlier for a total of $963.56, a savings of $404.44.

I was set on the Sony CW until I found out about this laptop from the guy asking to compare them.

Why isn't there more discussion and excitement about this?

No idea...besides the N81 which is larger, this laptop is the most powerful 14 incher...I mean, a GT240M in a 14 inch body? wow

The only thing that would make me choose another laptop is if a competitor with equivalent performance has a glass screen.

With the Thinkpad fame, the other products of lenovo are just not catching more attention than they should.

Indeed. With the brand, price and performance (14" with GT240m at this price?), I'm wondering why I can't find more information about this notebook!

PC&Notebooks in USA is much cheaper than in China

    呵呵

If you search for Y450 on the web or YT you find a lot of results from Asian countries. For some reason they are more popular there. I wonder why.

Lenovo is Asian after all...but indeed the IdeaPad line is not as popular as the ThinkPads, and albeit they offer good bang-for-the-buck, they are not so known

Unbelievable. This thread is about to die again. I don't understand why it's so hard to get people talking about this notebook. It's literally the 14" with the best video card!

Does anyone actually own it? I would be curious as to how its thermal design is, if it is able to keep the 240M cool. If so, then this would be a killer laptop for the specs/size/price.

But sadly, I don't think anyone owns it...=(

I'm a little concerned about the temps. Otherwise, a capable graphics card in a 14" is commendable indeed.

    Hey guys,

I purchased the y450 with the GT240m earlier this evening, and it ships sometime next week. I've been wanting a 14" or smaller laptop that was good for gaming and provided decent battery life. I'm hoping this gets at least 3 hours, and I will be very happy. I've never purchased Lenovo or IBM before, so this is a new company experience for me.

I had actually placed an order for the Sony CW which I thought met all of my needs very well, only to get an email last week saying that my order was cancelled due to parts being out of stock. So, I decided to look elsewhere, and I saw someone mention the y450 in another thread.

I hope I've made the right choice. I've been waiting forever to get a new laptop! I'll try and provide a brief review when I receive the item in the next few weeks.

Hi there! First off congratulations with your purchase!

This is indeed one of the most powerful 14 inch laptops existent, it even beats tons of 15 inchers. webjeff, I think you should be happy with your new laptop.

I will look forward to that brief review of yours. Keep us posted!

    I've got mine.

    First impressions are:

    1. Keyboard is definitely not Thinkpad standard.
    2. It's not a cool notebook, unlike my X61. Also unlike my X61, it doesn't get much hotter even with the GPU engaged.
    3. LCD angles aren't hot. You probably have 10 degrees up/down and 20 degrees left/right before the colours start to shift. Within the sweet spot it seems ok, but I haven't calibrated the screen yet.
    4. GT240M is plenty fast. 12k 3D Marks in 3D Mark 05. I haven't tried 06 yet. I can get 60 FPS in Ironforge in WoW with mostly high settings.
    5. So it's from Lenovo, but the power tip is not the same as the Thinkpads. Why can't they just use the same damn tip?
    6. Impressively there isn't a lot of crapware installed. There's McAfee, a couple of Lenovo programs, Cyberlink, and... that's abou it. Boot times are pretty decent.

Will update with a more coherent post after I get some sleep and use the notebook some more.

That's not very much though, at least if you tend to use a laptop on a coffee table, etc :(

An update on heat: It's one of those warm notebooks, like I mentioned. However even when gaming it doesn't get much hotter. So it's just uniformly warm throughout.

Has anyone done a full review on the loaded Y450 model yet? I was dead set on getting one until I thought I might like something with a bit better battery life, started to sway toward the Asus UL80vt, but think I'm back on the Y450 train...or maybe I will try the x83 if it has better battery life than the y450.

BTW, I would venture to guess Lenovo will offer the $200 off this laptop again in the future, bringing it below $800. They had it back in November for a while, then again in December.
