To All,
Ive been putting off the BIOS update posted on the Lenovo site on 7/18/11. Now I know that some of you have installed non-OEM modified BIOS upgrades, and thats fine. Im a wuss, and I dont intend to mess around with tweaking my BIOS. I only want to know, from users who installed the update from the Lenovo site, if there are any problems with the update. Are there any issues with the actual update process, or after putting it on your Y470?

This is my current system:

Lenovo Y470 085525U 2nd generation Intel® Core i7-2630QM Processor ( 2.00GHz 1333MHz 6MB )
8 GB PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1333MHz
NVIDIA GeForce GT 550M 1GB
500GB 7200

After I download the new BIOS file, how long should the installation process take, to include the flashing? Any and all information about this process, from those users who have gone through this update, will be greatly appreciated.

 As they say in NYC, forget about it! I double checked my BIOS last night. I currently have 47CN27WW (Version 2.05), SMBIOS Version 2.7 installed. The installed date was 5/13/11. I ordered my Y470 on 5/27/11, so that must be the most up-to-date BIOS when they built my machine.

The 47CN25WW (Version 2.03) BIOS as offered on the Lenovo site, 7/18/11, must be older than the one I have presently installed.

While I appreciate that Lenovo gave me V2.05 when they built my laptop, whats the story with them offering V2.03 on their site, 7/18/11 as the latest version available?

I guess I just dont understand the eastern mind set.

Lenovo sucks for BIOS updates on their website for their consumer line IdeaPads. If you can somehow get this message to them for all of us IdeaPads owners and get them to put up the most recent BIOS on their website, this would be greatly appreciated. Although the think the best approach to get this message across is for all (at least most) NBR members to either join the official Lenovo forum and file a complaint with poll or file a petition for this matter.

That was a good reply. I don't know how to file a petition, but I did post this question, " Why are the Y470 Drivers & Downloads so out of date?" on the Lenovo forum web site. I urge all members to go there and chime in. Otherwise, some fool will once again call this a "dumb question" and it will drop to page 145, and off the Lenovo radar.

I asked for  the official policy for approving/including drivers on the Lenovo Drivers & Downloads web page, but I fear some moderator will offer his explanation, and no one from the Lenovo corporate structure will provide any meaningful excuse.

Dear Forum Members,
I posted this question on the Lenovo IdeaPad Y, U, B, V, and Z series Laptops forum:
“Why are the Y470 Drivers & Downloads so out of date?” on 10/21/11. I only received 3 replies from mvrk2011 echoing my plea, and requesting that Lenovo provide us with an answer. Today, I noticed that the question has been moved to: Lenovo Community > Special Events > Feedback on the new support site. The moderator did not indicate that it has been moved, from the original forum post.
I suppose this is a good sign. Maybe it IS “feedback” on Lenovo’s inefficiency in keeping their users up-to-date. Maybe they are trying to bury the post in a little used thread. I don’t know, but I hope the question will finally get addressed, and answered by those in the know at Lenovo.
