I realize that Skyrim still has a few days until release, but I figured I would pose my question now anyway.

I am highly considering buying a Y470. My previous laptop (cyberpower: BIG mistake) had major overheating issues.

    I want to know-
1). Will this laptop play Skyrim ok?
2). Will I have problems with overheating?

Would anyone be willing to post a review of playing Skyrim on a y470 once the game is released? Would really help my decision making process. Thanks a lot in advance...

I also wan't to know the same. The graphics card is cooled really well but my processor heats up quite alot on most games I play. Reading around it seems others have this same issue and when it heats up it lags a bit.

I have the i3 version btw

I have a y470, i can get 40 + fps with all high settings for battlefield 3..with a little overclock (900/1000)...without oc..i average around 30...and i ran crysis 2 fine as well...i think this laptop can handle skyrim, at least on medium settings

Which processor does your Y470 have? If I overclock my card would the extra performance probably take some stress off the cpu?

core i5 2410M 2.3 ghz...im not sure about that..but i know overclocking increases the heat dissipated through the fan...and it's also based on your nvidia drivers as well..

make sure that your power options is always on "hgh powerformance" when you game..

make sure you fan management is on "cool" (press the crescrent moon soft touch button above the keyboard to change your fan settings)...cools the laptop down a bit...

    and you should be fine...

Thank you for the reply. My Y470 is already on all the settings you've mentioned and still the processor overheats. I guess I should have taken the i5 model.

@ op: If you can try to pick up the i5 or the i7 y470 over the i3 :D

Hey noobie here , i have the same model as u. when you overclock does the 900 refer to coreclock and 1000 refer to shader clock? im using msi afterburner and locked both fields to sync with each other. my default is 740 and 1480.

noob here too, 900 is for the core clock and the shader is synced with it...the 1000 is for memory clock

That's a huge increase in fps. I have got to try that out!

Regarding the cpu I found a scary thread assuming the Y570 is similar to the Y470. :(

Anyone else? How does Skyrim run on your y470 or y570? What did you have to do to get it run? (drivers, etc). Thanks.

runs great on my 470..average from 30 + and the lowest drop was to 26 in battle(im still on the first level, after the dragon appears)..it runs pretty smooth with an overclock..it can go as high as 45 during gameplay and drop to high 20's (26+) but it's smooth so far in my opinion (this is with high settings and no AF and 2x antialiasing)..

p.s. i still have the 275.50 drivers (since it's been stable for me for the past two months).
on medium settings, i am averaging 35+ fps with no overclock and 2x anti..

Just in case anyone is wonder, I took in all your advice, bought a y470 (i5 2.3, 4 gb ram) from the outlet. Skyrim works great on it. The program automatically set the game at high settings and it still ran fine so I bumped up the view distances a bit and installed some graphics mods. Thanks for all the feedback

Is anyone playing Skyrim on the Y470 with an i7 processor? Any heat issue with the i7?

I'm running a "stock" Y570 i7 with 8GB of RAM and whatever drivers were already loaded.

Skyrim runs smoothly on high settings with CPU temps spiking to the high 80's and GPU temp to the high 70's (temps usually hang around 65-75 on the CPU and 55-65 on the GPU when in-game).

I did a few tweaks from the Skyrim guide on TweakGuides.com, but other than that no spectacular overclocking or anything. I haven't tried ultra high settings because it looks really good on high and I don't need to see the dirt particles on my housecarl's nose.
