Anyone know if these laptops have the same hinge problem as the y560? Or has that been fixed by now.

Too early to tell as these problems happen over time. If you're worried about it, get a good warranty and let that take care of the problem. ;)

Still going strong after 15 months of use. I wish something would break on this so I would have an excuse to buy a new shinny laptop... :p

Is the hinge still ok? I'm worried about consumer line build quality, I had an inspiron that wobbled like crazy after a year or 2, even after tightening up the screws it wasn't that much better. I will be opening my laptop like 10-20 times per day, how often do you open/close yours?

Me or OP? My hinges are still just as strong as the day I got the laptop. I'm like you; I open or close my screen at least a dozen times a day. I open it and close it gently and try to treat it with care.

I actually meant you since you've had it the longest, I'm still skeptical of the build quality of the y470 vs a Tecra or Thinkpad, perhaps you can comment on that since you have both?

I guess it's how you open the laptop, cause, some people open it with their left hand at their left. It may force the hinge to flex, that's why I open it in from the center, it may help.

Going from a Thinkpad to an Ideapad wasn't all that bad. As long as you keep your expectations in check and take care of the laptop, I see no reason why it can't last just as long.

I'm not sure if you need the extra GPU power, but you may want to look into the eGPU setups. http://forum.notebookreview.com/gaming-software-graphics-cards/418851-diy-egpu-experiences.html

Not for everyone, but it may allow you to have a Thinkpad while being able to game. (I may have done this if I knew about it in advance.)
