I am hoping someone can give me confirmation on this.
I was planning on getting a Lenovo Y470P laptop, which is 14" and supports 1366x768, which is a decent resolution for a 14" for what I need it for.
However I have a nice 23" inch HD monitor that supports really high resolution, I was hoping to connect to laptop when I'm at home for better resolution.
According to Lenovo support, even if I connect an external monitor, I will still only get 1366x768, can someone confirm this? Or are they incorrect?

I don't think anybody still makes notebooks with 1024x768 screens, the Y470p will have a 1366x768 screen.
My guess is that your external monitor will work fine. AMD lists the maximum resolution of the GPU as 2048x153614 through the VGA port or 2560x16001 through the DisplayPort or DVI ports (source: AMD Radeon? HD 7500M and HD 7600M Series Graphics) -
Yeah I meant 1366x768, I was assuming it would as i always thought resolution is based on graphics and the display you have plugged into laptop not the laptop display especially since I seen people upgrade to higher just by changing the LCD
I'm just hoping someone can confirm they can go higher than that on an external monitor, I just want to be sure before buying once since my plan is to use my 23" when I'm home and I'd like to have a decent resolution on the monitor but I keep hearing it won't -
They're too new for anyone to have done any real testing on yet, but even my 7 year old Dell desktop with an equally old Radeon X300 GPU can handle monitors with resolutions that didn't exist when the computer was built. I know because I bought a new widescreen monitor for it a couple of years ago. The monitor's resolution wasn't on the list for the X300 and the guys at the store where I bought it didn't know one way or the other, but it turned out to be plug and play. I would think that it would be a complete non-issue on a brand-new machine with a decent GPU like the Y470p.

After talking to a 2nd sales person, they told me it can have higher resolution with an external monitor, guess you can't always trust a sales person to have accurate information

Just to double confirm. Yeah you can use the external output on higher resolutions. I have mine as extended desktop on an older model Asus 21" at 1440x900 and runs just fine.
