I understand this laptop hasn't to my knowledge been received by anyone yet so I am just looking for some general answers to a few questions because this HP tablet is killing me now.

I know that the 7690 is a higher level card than the 550 and it seems to support the dynamic switching that AMD supports now. Any experience with this system? I would prefer the ability to run exclusively on the IGP with only programs I designate running on the AMD chip. I don't know if either optimus or the amd solution works that way though.

I also read the anandtech review of the amd technology and was underwhelmed. Has anything changed over the last few months since then? I know their catalyst drivers don't support switchable GPUs so how is Lenovo with updates?

I know there are a lot of questions but I am trying to decide the higher power gpu with possibly lower support and less mature system or the gt550 that I would assume works well like the other optimus solutions on the market.

I had a HP before this len with dynamic switching by AMD and being able to fix the settings in bios is much better than the Nvidia, in which I wasn't able to find any setting to fix.

IMO their catalyst control panel smokes the Nvidia control panel hands down, if you get what I've got now with the Nvidia.

I'd be going with the HD card solely because you can set the switchable graphics to fixed, when I had a HP before this len, it was always switching at inappropriate time causing bad performance issues, so I found out I could change the settings in bios so as it only switched when I allowed it to switch, as in when I unplugged mains power it would prompt to ask if I wanted to use power saving mode. Which is the way it should be, seeing that computers don't use that much power. So who really cares about saving power if your plugged in, it's only when using the battery you want to save the battery charge for as long as possible.

With my HP after I changed the bios, if I was on battery and in performance mode, placing my cursors over the battery icon in the task bar showed 1.5 hours usage time, on power saving mode it showed 4.5 hours usage time, this is how all switchable graphics should be set IMO. The Nvidia system to my knowledge is incapable of being fixed.

It's not that I don't like my Lenovo because (Touch wood) I haven't had any problems with it and it goes good, but I wish I wouldn't have sold my dv6-6136tx to buy this, not because the HP was a better laptop because I don't believe it was (Pretty much the same I think, but I wanted the better specs at no out of pocket cost to switch) but the HP support is way better. This morning I read a post on the Lenovo site where some dude just got a new Y570 and posted that he had 2.09 bios, seeing mine are 2.08 I'd like to update, (why not) do you think I could just go to their Driver & support page and download them like I could if I had a HP, man them dudes wanna get their act together cause it's a shocker!

When I buy a laptop I would like to believe I'm also paying for the people who standing behind the product, their guys are MIA!
