    Nevermind, answered my own question.

    Manual says SATA 3.0GB, which refers to SATA II

    I am also interested in getting the Y470P and curious about whether SATAIII ssd's do work.

    They DO work, but they only operate at SATA II speeds. SATA III is backwards compatible.

    That is what I read as well... however, I also noticed there is a very small list of laptops that even have SATA III speeds anyways, so I'm not as worried about it. I just wanted to be sure I have all the capabilities other laptops would have, as Y470p will most likely be my primary computer for least 2 years.

    Being limited to SATA II just means the SATA III SSD will cap at SATA II speed limit.

    This is a bit old, but just wanted to let people know that this laptop is SATA III capable. The mSATA and the HDD are both SATA III ports. The ODD is only SATA II.
