Has anybody taken one of the 3840x2160 Y50s apart and noted down the exact model number of the screen?
I got one and the screen is a useless cheating pentile RGBW piece of crap. It is deeply disappointing - any single pixel wide line in a colour other than black or white looks like it was printed on a dot matrix printer with every other pixel missing, which makes small font rendering unusable with any kind of color coding.
Does anyone know what the part number of the standard 3840x2160 panel they use is (it isn't in EDID, sadly)? Ideally I want to find another screen of the same size and resolution that isn't a useless pentile one (I heard a rumour that the one in the Toshiba P50-B is a proper RGB panel) and replace it, but given we are dealing with screens of resolution that pushes beyond all of the existing interconnect standards, I wanted to compare part numbers to make sure it will fit. Looking at aliexpress, I have found that Samsung LTN156FL02 is listed as a replacement, and it is RGBW, so I am suspecting this is in fact the model used.
I also found the Sharp LQ156D1JX01, which is similar but not listed as proper RGB. What concerns me is that while the active area of the two panels is the same (within 1mm), the physical overall size of the sharp is bigger:
Samsung: 359.5mm W x 223.8mm H x 3.0mm T
Sharp: 367.98mm W x 224.61mm H x 3.4mm T
Particularly concerning is the width of the screen, with the Sharp listed as being 8.5mm wider. That is a LOT of extra width considering that the entire bezel is 15mm wide. Looking at the pictures of the panels, however, the Samsung one has mounting tabs top and bottom, and the bottom ones stick out about as far as the control circuitry at the bottom. The Sharp has the bottom mounts on the sides, which between the two tabs easily amounts to the 8.5mm of difference in the width. If needs be these could just be cut off, as the screen is almost certainly quite well wedged inside the casing. So as a first pass at looking at the solution, this looks like this upgrade could work out quite well.
Has anybody tried to do this upgrade, or has some high res photos of the inside of the screen assembly on the Y50? I really would prefer to not have to trade my Y50 in for a Toshiba P50-B because the Y50 has a much more aggreable spec for what I want to do, but this sly-res Samsung panel is complete and utter garbage that is making my eyes bleed.

Moninfo should show you the model. You might have to use "Run as admin.." because at least in my case if I don't do it an "Access violation" error pops up.
I hear the panel is glued in but I'm not clear if its on the touch or non-touch versions or both. -
For y50 4k model, the screen model is Samsung LTN156FL02-L01. Someone told me that one people have replaced the Samsung's screen with Sharp LQ156D1JX01, but not for y50 4k model. He solved the problem of interface pin pitch, and LQ156D1JX01 works!

There a a difference in the interface pin pitch? Do you have a link to the original post?

For the interface pin pitch, Samsung LTN156FL02-F01 is 0.5mm, and Sharp LQ156D1JX01 is 0.4mm. -
Was this on another thread here or somewhere completely different? I would rather like to read any and all info available before I begin dismantling.
