I have the original Y50 and I replaced the screen with a nice IPS panel I purchased about a week after seeing the original horrendous TN panel, and I also replaced the main HDD with a 512gb 840 pro. I updated the computer to a fresh install of 8.1.

The battery life on this laptop is just atrocious. I like to do things on higher brightness and this thing barely lasts 2 hours. Even my M11X lasted around 3-4 Is there some kind of replacement battery that has a higher capacity for this laptop yet?

Another issue I have had is that the 2.0 USB port on the right side of the laptop isn't functioning anymore. I'm not sure when this happened but I feel like it is probably software related. Is this a common issue that a bios update could fix? I haven't updated any of the drivers, including GPU drivers since 2-3 months after the release of the laptop.

The other problem I have is with the power management. Any time I open the power management to keep the battery charged at 80-85% it freezes (I can't do a battery reset either) so I am stuck with this thing plugged in at 100% just killing the battery.

On a side note, I haven't had any hinge issues that others have experienced yet. I don't open and close it a lot so that could be why.

Any suggestions on the battery or is this thing always gonna have a terrible battery? I would really enjoy watching a 3 hour movie when connected to HDMI to a television without panicking and having to go find the charger.

I have a 512 SSD and upgraded screen running fresh win7. My battery is about 4 hours on balanced depending on what i do. were you on high performance when you got 2 hours?

Honestly, This is a performance gaming laptop, you sort of have to expect ****ty battery life. It's like complaining your Ferrari gets **** mileage. It's expected.

As for USB, open the device manager and find your USB ports. Uninstall the drivers. once the USB ports aren't detected, restart the computer. It should re-install the fresh drivers and work again. I had them die on me once saying some error about power or something. Uninstall drivers and restart fixed it.

    Good luck.
