But it does fix the viewing angle issue.

Anyone know of any high color gamut displays that are compatible with the Y50?
Also some information about color gamut.. 70% or so NTSC(which is what most panels are) color gamut represents 100% of sRGB which is roughly the equivalent of what you see on your TV so that should be fine for most users. You'll want 90% NTSC or above if you do graphical work. Also higher color gamut screens required greater back-lighting which uses up more of your battery. -
This may work B156HAN01.1 Datasheet download - Panelook.com
Similar to the one you were looking at earlier. I don't think there are any >80% NTSC laptop screens on the general market.
It is quite literally the only panel that comes up when you filter 15.6, high gamut, 1080 and in production, with 30pin. It isn't ips but apparently uses something similar to it.
AUO - AHVA
BTW take a look at this thread, might find it helpful: http://forum.notebookreview.com/toshiba/724954-p50-review-5.html -
im going to pick up that B156HAN01.2 or the 3.0 version which seems to be brand new from auo and even better #'s then the 1.2. laptopscreens doesnt have it listed on thier site so sent an email to check if they have it
-
The LP156WF4-SPB1 I received was damaged and I'll return it for a refund and get the B156HAN01.2 instead. Will report back after screen replacement.
-
Any word on 4k replacement screens?
-
Did you get glossy or matte? Laptopscreen is telling me they're out of stock on the B156HAN01.2 and only have the LG compatible screens?
-
oh, that is barf, the 1.0 and 1.1 are out of stock, the 1.2 says 10+ in stock and now they are telling you the 1.2 is out as well. not cool
-
Yeah, they're telling me 1.2 out of stock (matte or glossy), with no ETA on when they'll get them.
-
Laptopscreen emailed me the glossy AH-IPS, LP156WF4(SP)(C1), is out. They are sending me the LP156WF4(SP)(D1), which is matte. We'll update when I receive it.
-
d1 looks nice 400nits according to panelook. hopefully u guys can get the auo an lg's successfully installed soon.
-
Please keep us posted! Some reviewers of the same seller on Amazon reported getting a compatible screen (LG) instead of the screen they ordered - hope the same doesn't happen.m1ko likes this.

I've followed this thread extensively, shilly thanks for stepping up on the display replacement demo pics.
I just ordered a Y50 59421855, through the Friends and Family Program...terribly worried about the disappointment I might feel going from a top end HP dv6tQE (2012) with a beautiful display to something atrocious. I'm a bit of a 'no stone unturned' type, and for the money, if a B156HAN01.2 or better/newer model 30 pin equivalent display will work I'll do it.
I joined just to follow and engage Y50 users. I don't see other laptops as being as business and gaming friendly..without looking ridiculous in a meeting room...seems like mainstream manufacturers HP etc. have gone cheap...as in why pair a NVidia 850M with a i7 4700 dual core processor?
I should have the laptop tomorrow evening.m1ko likes this. -

When I purchased my B156HAN01.2 I just got it as a used pull from a Samsung NP880Z5E notebook from ebay. There is also a ebay seller based out of Israel that seemed to be selling exact (not just compatible) screens.
I will note that the AUO screen does have image retention, just like many of the other cheaper IPS laptop panels that are out there. I don't know if the 15.6" LG does or not either, but my guess is it will since the 14" one does too. My opinion? Just use it at 50% brightness (it is still very bright!) to reduce the retention effect and enjoy the better viewing angles and color that if offers.
Edit: The B156HAN01.2 is a matte anti-glare display, to answer the question above. -
Could you do some testing, see how battery life compares to with the other screen?
I ask because I can deal with this Chi Mei screen, but if the new screen takes more than 15-20 minutes out of battery life I don't think I could get it. College and what-not. Sacrificing a better screen for the extra time on battery just isn't really an option for me. -
Is there such thing as an eDP-LVDS converter or adapter. That would open a myriad of lcd screens to be used.
edit;
would be similar to this but in reverse
EmerytHacks: Connecting an iPad retina LCD to a PC

Here's a list of lcds, most wide gamut ips screens are LVDS

A comparison photo from Baidu Tieba. The screen is an AUO w(b?)156han01.2.
Another photo, this author said this is a B156HAN01.2.
Another one, using LG LP156WF4(SP)(B1)

Great find, ghyeng! Thanks for that.
Where did you find these pics? Can you provide us with further information?
The B156HAN01.2 seems to be a pretty good panel while being quite affordable. I would love to get this for a replacement, if i would decide for Y50.
But to be sure that it works, it would be great to get more confirmation here from guys who did the replacement too and maybe even a short video about how to do the replacement would be very appreciated!
-
They're from Baidu - just go on Baidu and search for Y50. The AU B156HAN01.2 screen has better color gamut than the LG, but it's difficult to find it in stock - alot of sellers sell compatible models. I just ordered one from a Chinese seller - hopefully I get the AU and not a compatible.
-
chris_laptopfan Notebook Consultant
Thanks for the reply. I'll take a look at Baidu.
Actually i'm quite surprised that someone orders a product and in many cases doesn't get delivered that exact product, but a compatible one.
Maybe that's usual in the market for panels, but have never seen such a procedure elsewhere
Hope, you're lucky with getting the correct display you ordered and hope you'll tell us how it works?

Has anyone found the "B156HAN03.0" for under $130? Or if they know what laptop it's being used on?
-
Does replacing the screen void the warranty?
-
Yes It does ... it's considered as hardware replacement so it's same as you would change RAM or HDD
-
Replacing ram or HDD doesn't void the warranty on most laptops... (As you can just place the old part back in and they would never know)
-
Changing ram and HDD should only void the warranty for those specific parts I thought?
-
Many of these companies are voiding the warranty simply by opening the system up. Their reasoning is for fraud protection. MSI for example has stickers that void the warranty for opening it. Asus and Razer have terms in their warranty agreement that say the laptops are "non-user serviceable". If they find out you opened your system up, they don't have to honor any warranty. That said, if it's a component failure and it's clearly not from your mod, they might play nice and replace it for you. But I wouldn't replace my screen though and expect them not to notice.
-
You were right they sent me the B156HTN03.0 which is a TN panel. What a pain.. now I have to wait for laptopscreen.com to send me a replacement and either return or sell this TN panel.m1ko likes this.
-
On that note, is there a warranty sticker protecting the bottom of the Y50 from being opened up?
-
No there isn't.
-
I haven't seen any sellers with confirmed inventory of these latest B156HAN panels from AU yet. The one ebay seller that lists this has a generic stock photo and is probably selling compatibles. I think these are just being produced.

The B156HAN03.0 is a glossy display, FYI. Also, these AUO displays don't change the battery life compared to the Chimei panel.
New Original LCD Screen Matte 30 Pin "15 6" B156HAN01 2 | eBay
The one they picture there is the same as mine. From the way their auction is listed it should be a genuine B156HAN01.2. -
That's 140 USD though. Quite a bit more expensive than 90.
-
Yeah, but it seem to be the exact screen. It might be worth the extra money it be sure of what you are getting and not having to deal with the possibility of getting a compatible.
I have an LG LP156WF4 (SP)(D1) from laptopScreen.com coming in Monday. After seeing the pics ghyeng posted, I decided to hedge my bet and ordered a B156HAN01.2 from a similar EBay auction from the same seller: B156HAN01.2 | eBay. It's in transit and shipping from Israel with an ETA of July 16 - 31.
I'll post what I get and how it compares to the LG.
It will be nice to have a decent spare screen . If anything happens to whichever screen I end up using, I do not want to deal with trying to find one of these again.
-
I've looked on all the threads but I can't figure out how to find which display I have. What do I do? Thanks.
Edit: Oh wow, it was easier than I thought. I just went into device manager, selected the display and went into the driver properties. Then in the details tab I selected the hardware ID drop down which display you have.m1ko likes this. -
I would be getting the Touch version of the Y50, is it compatable?
-
We would need to know the ID of the touch panel to do some research.
-
Sorry - I don't quite follow. Is this thread about replacing the screen with a better one? Or just replacing it (if it's broken)?
Tempted to order one, but as a designer, I think this panel is a bad idea. If I can replace it with an matte IPS panel, I would totally do it. Can anyone direct me to one? -
Hi guys after reading this thread I decided to buy the lenovo y50 and change the panel =D. I found some laptop allegedly used the B156HAN01.2 panel. One is the Lenovo T440s and other is the Clevo w650sj here are some videos to see how the screen looks =D

This thread is primarly for replacing the original screen with a better one.
Same situation here. I wanna use the laptop primarly for work, mainly for graphics, as well. If i would go for this device, i definitely would replace the screen.
Ghyeng has posted some pics of replacements here, but i miss some actual reports here as well.
Maybe we could do a list of panels, which are defnitely reported to work on the Y50 and Ramzay kindly could attach these tested and proved panels to his original post for a better overview...?
Another point of the matter is the guarantee, which will be voided when doing this replacement i guess?
ycon, did you already have a look at the Gigabyte P34g v2? It's my personal favorite at the moment as it has the same hardware specs and a far better display... -
chris_laptopfan Notebook Consultant
Hi lost dragon,
did you already changed the panel successfully or are you going to do so? If you have done it already, some pictures and explainations would be very nice!
btw. the B156HAN01.2 Panel is not a touchscreen like this one from your YT link, is it? -
This is about replacing the display with a better one. The computer is almost perfect, but the poor displays ruin it.
We're trying to do what Lenovo should have done. -
Thanks for that.
A list would be great. If the screen replacement is as simple as it looks- I'm fine getting the Y50 and replacing the screen. One model (B156HAN01.2) is only about $82USD.
Could an IPS screen reduce battery life?
Yep- looked at the P34G. A few reason I ruled it out. I want a 15.6" screen. I have a gigabyte P15F v2, and it is faulty (a few issues). Gigabyte in Australia are not responding (but the store I bought it from are refunding me). For the price, I could get the UHD version of the Y50 for the same/less money and it has an 860m.
On a seperate note, the laptop I have now (P15F) has the "AUO31ED". It is a VERY uncomfortable screen to use. Would this be basically the same as the Y50's "AUO36ED"? -
Are there any wide gamut TN displays (at least 95% sRGB) to replace with? I don't want to deal with image retention if I decide to replace the screen when I get my y50.
Or, what high gamut IPS screens are there that don't have ghosting and are not very expensive?m1ko likes this. -
I try to update the original post on a regular basis with information as it becomes available.
-
Hi chris_laptopfan.
not really, in fact I have not even yet the y50 XD. But I'm not thinking about it, I think the panel is not touchscreen what happens is that there are two versions in the t440s one's touchscreen and another no touchscreen and idk if they use the same panel -

The touchscreen digitizer is sandwiched on top of the lcd panel, usually with its controller pcb taped to the back of the backlight. It is usually replaceable, unless lenovo choose to glue it to the screen. It will make the replacement process harder, with more likelyhood of damaging something. You will also likely get dust between the screen and digitizer if you don't do the replacement in a clean room.
-
I've currently got the Gigabyte P15F with AUO31ED screen. Would this screen be roughly the same as the AU model on the Y50 (AUO36ED)?
