So, I have been tracking this thread for a while now, and I have been flustered by the number of pages that this thread has, which just goes to show you the popularity of replacement screens for the Y50 and the frustrations with the Chimei that Y50's currently have. I'm trying to replace my Y50's screen, and I am down to these two, from the four listed. I want a matte screen that can output 300 nits of brightness, which both of these have. I do not want a glossy screen since I want to use my Y50 in college, which might sometimes be outdoors. I was wondering about which one is the better screen for my Y50. I know that the AUO one is AHVA, and LG, IPS. I also know that the response time is higher on the LG than on the AUO, according to Panelook. Could any experienced Y50 screen replacers offer their insights on which I should get? And I'm planning to get them from Amazon.

    Thank you!

It seems that the LG is the better choice. Take a look at this

What about the IPS refresh rate? I am getting sick by the poor contrast of this screen and am pretty sure that a better panel would help my eyes. Interested in a good color, good contrast and at least significantly better viewing angles. Concerned about refresh rate though.

Update 2016: back in August 2015, I have made the decision to buy the LG LP156WF4-SPD1 (matte). I purchased it from Amazon for about $80 because at that time, the cheapest AUO was about $10 more, while offering rather the same specs and features. So, I placed my order, and a few days after, the package arrived. I unboxed it, and at the back of the panel, it said B156HAN01.2! That is right, I got the AUO matte panel instead!!! Now I admit that this was due to a mistake of the seller choosing, perhaps, the wrong panel, but still: I will take 91% sRGB over 72%! Even though it seems to deliver a tad, just a tad, below 300 nits, I'm happy! In fact, I'm so happy that normally I don't bump old threads, but I felt the need to type behind this very screen to you guys.

I assume that you are talking about the LG IPS panel. Both the LG and the AUO are 60Hz. The LG is AH-IPS, and the AUO is AHVA (which is not in any way related to VA displays). The LG has ever so slightly better viewing angles and is consistently brighter (by like 10-15 nits on average), but the AUO has more colors. In my experience, the AUO also tends to be better calibrated, but you can't go wrong with either. I honestly recommend the AUO at this point.

This thread is months old now. A month after I posted this, I placed an order on the LG matte IPS, but the vendor shipped an AUO B156HAN01.2 and I installed it on my Y50. It is really good, colors are really accurate, and it is brighter than the Chimei original panel. However, I would have liked my specific panel to be a little brighter, but it's much better. And, I saved $10, since LG cost $80 and AUO cost $90.
