I just got it a few days ago and I noticed when i shut down the laptop, the fans get really loud for ~10 seconds before shutting down completely. Is this normal?

Do you have Fast Startup enabled?
Fast Startup - Turn On or Off in Windows 8
What it basicly does is writing the kernel session and device drivers to the hibernation (hiberfil.sys) file on the disk when you shut down your PC. On the next startup Windows only needs to read this file instead of going through the hole System initialisation process, which saves time.
Disabling it could fix your issue.
