Yea at the super OC's you guys are posting, I am seeing HIGH 80's in furmark and while playing farcry 3 for about a half hour, 85+ is common, so I have dropped them down.... ~3fps or so is not worth killing my cards. I am happy with where they are and am not trying to win some OC competition. If I want more than what this offers; I'll fire up the desktop and enjoy.

Just to note, I have my laptop on my actual lap, resting on my legs... not on a table, or a stand, or elevated, or on a cooling pad, nothing like that...... just hanging out on my cough playing games and running benchmarks. So that is part of my "higher temps cause" obviously, as I am using it as I would gather most people would. I am not gonna sit at a desk with a laptop, if I wanted to do that I would turn on my desktop....

By the way; I just ran furmark and held the pc in the air, literally for 15 minutes temps didn't go over 72 at my OC of 980/2300. I'll try again at these crazy 1100+ clocks that you guys are running, but I don't feel like holding this brick for another 15 minutes right now.

Nice temps, better than mine ;) I think your memory can probably go much higher than 2200. At what mhz do you start seeing artifacts? Mine is at above 2600.

Here's mine running at the same speed for comparison.

And here's running at 1155/2555 which is completely stable for me with zero artifacts. I'll probably start upping the mhz a little more to find the absolute highest stable setting.

Anyone run the Catzilla ALLbenchmark test yet?

Seems to be the new big benchmark on the block until the new 3dmark is released....
I am going to run a test on my OC SLI settings and a single card test later when I am out of work.

Wonder if it would do me any good to overclock. I don't really feel like I need it. Games run fine with SLI.
Would I really notice the boost it might give?

Most likely the most concrete result you can achieve is a post in some forum where you pushed your clocks 5 MHz higher than the other guy before your laptop is throttling/shutting itself!

Typically it's something like 3-10% increase in performance and a terrible amount of tinkering (at least used to be).

Screen shot from this morning. The laptop was sitting on the cooling pad but the pad was not powered. I keep it on the pad so the laptop doesn't suffocate on itself since my ottoman coffee table that the laptop sits on is made out of soft leather. Furmark really keeps the house warm.

I've tried the bat files and get this error message:

What may be the reason for this? How can I fix it?

hey guys i have a small doubt
Ideapad Y500 (59-346619)(indial model) is totally different from USA versions
especially the gpu it says nvidia GT650 n13p-GT1 GDDR5
where as in gpu of us models it shows GT650m (ddr version not specified)
whats my doubt is the 1st one powerful than the second one...??
    which one is better
is us models having ddr3 or gddr5?
actually the gpu model is quite different... can someone clear me on it....and does indian version has SLI Ultrabay option?

So i have the sli version running a clean version of nvidias 310.90 drivers. i have had no issues running sli in game. the power on this machine is great. after going through some of the forums, i noticed the amount of power that can be unleashed even with a slight oc. I ran a 3dmark 11 and got a bit over 3700 with solid temps. I saw that that can easily get above 4300. I downloaded nvidia inspector and created two .bat files from the text you provided in notepad. idk why but when i try to run the .bat my computer goes kind of nuts. cmd freezes on my and i start to get an colorful static spots on my screen, like some of the pixels are going crazy. I have to power down and restart. when i boot back up everything seems normal and when i reopen nvidia inspector, my clocks are still at stock speed. i've tried different things. I had the .bat in the folder with the app that was just in my c drive directory. i also tried configuring it where i could have the root folder in the desktop and have the .bat file in there with it, but i keep getting this same issue. ive also tried to just oc straight from the nvidia inspector. I was able to bump up my gpu1 to about +135/+300 but when i tried to do the same on my second gpu, my computer went crazy again. except this time i got sort of whit panels with black squares all over my screen and then a freeze. any ideas what to do? is this actually doing harm to my gpus? i mean i guess i just wont oc, its not really seeming worth it at this point.

how did you place nvidia inspector on the root of c? the entire folder? just the app? and when you mean root of the c drive you mean on c drive not in any folders.

and just run those .bats once thats done and it's overclocked?

thanks, sorry i'm a noob at this

ok, so I placed the nvidia inspector app only on my C drive not in any folder.

got rid of the 314.xx drivers in lieu of 310.90

clicked n1smo's .bat and it worked

thanks. using msi kombuster, I gained 11 fps, dropped the core clock to 900 and gained 6 fps.

EDIT: MSI Afterburner shows my core clock running 1055/2301 stable without any problems. its 9fps over default.

but in BF3, my FPS never exceeds 31.4 but it doesn't dip below 30... any advice. I already am running it on low setting except for certain important ones like mesh etc...

I can confirm the last overclockable drivers are 310.90. Maybe Nvidia Inspector needs an update? or maybe the performance profiles must be changed in a different way?

hey, for anyone using a single 650m... what settings are you using on Nvidia control panel?

no matter what game I play, its capped at 31.x FPS and running anywhere from 30%-70%. I have to run it on ultra settings before I max my gpu load, but then it will drop below 30fps and it'll lag every now and again. I play on low besides a couple important ones

    what drivers work the best?

Sounds like you have VSync on. IF it is on and you are below 60fps, it tries to keep it at 30fps. Disable VSync and see if that solves oyur issues.

Has anyone successfully overclocked using a driver newer than 310.90 WHQL, or is this confirmed to be the last overclockable driver? I would really love to get the performance increases from the newest drivers.

On a side note, what is the latest version of Nvidia Inspector? A cursory search seems to say 1.9.6.9 but I also see references to a 1.9.7.0 beta?

Hey guys, I´m starting with overclocking my Y500 SLI because of Arma 3 and I´ve just ran throught some 3D mark 11 test (links are below). As you can see in these results, core clock is 405 in both runs (1st run is single GPU, second is SLI). Any ideas why is that? I´ve got installed actuall nVidia drivers 314.07..

    http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/6136478? - Single GPU

    http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/6136520 - SLI

    http://www.3dmark.com/3dm/351661 - 3D Mark (2013) SLI

EDIT: I dont get it. I changed my clocks in nVidia inspector to 1000/2000 and look at this almost unnoticable improvement:

    http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/6136683

What is the reason of that??

Those results all look like stock clocks to me. Have you tried overclocking on 310.90 or earlier drivers? I've read that anything more current than 310.90 won't let you bump up the core, but I can't confirm this since I have not received my Y500 yet.

I used to do some OC after I get my Y500, and that was with 308 drivers or something like that.. and it was all good and stable but I returned my clocks to normal because there wasn´t reason to have GPU OCed.. But now I wanna play Arma 3 and my notebook is unable to play it nice, so I need my OC back. But as you can see, it´s not working well on 314 drivers :(

Don't use 314.07 drivers. My Y500 doesn't work at all with those. I have been successfully overclocked both Gpus with 310.90 drivers and I would recommend you to use that driver version until Nvidia fixes their newer drivers.

Problem was I had my texture settings to "Quality". When I switched to "High Performance" the fps went to 40-60+ not overclocked... and on minecraft I can't get vsync to work, my computer doesn't need to push 199fps. lol.

on 310 drivers, if I switch power profile from adaptive to preferred performance, my clock seems to get stuck even utilizing the default settings. I did a clean install of new drivers and didn't o/c them yet it will still get stuck at 790/2001

by the way, it came stock with vsync turned off. in both bf3 and my computers global settings

hows the temps on your laptops when overclocked to about 9++/24++

My processor reaches around 77C-92C but my Gpus are at around 68C-72C (SLI).

Is that okay for the processor or should i repaste it? or other methods? I use it with a decent cooling pad.

    Thanks,

Is that 100% stable in games or is that just a benchmark OC? And why is the CPU so hot? Usually I see CPU's run 10 C cooler than GPU's, not the other way around. Is there any CPU throttling when you go above 90 C?

I didn´t try it in game, but I ran about 5 times 3D mark with these settings and about 20 minutes in furmark. CPU´s temperature is maybe affected by Throttlestop - BD prochot is turned off. I´ll try to test it in games today (Far Cry 3/Arma 3/ Crysis 3) and we will see..

    hello everyone!
n1smo, as far as i can see you're the only one having the y500 with a single nvidia gt650m and i also want to buy the single graphic card one so:
Can u please post here the results that you obtain running 3DMark06 (if possible with default clocks of your card not occ'd)? Ii'm more interested in those results than the ones from 3dmark11 because i don't and i won't (in the near future) play games on dx11
    Thanks in advance!

Hello guys my english skill is bad but i must tell you something.
I edited the batch file and it works fine with nvidia 314.22 driver (i use Nvidiainspector 1.9.7.1).
1 thing, core speed limited to 925Mhz in driver, if u know something to change pls write it.
    I have Leonovo Y500 with SLI (2x650M)
    For overlock:

    @echo off
    c:
    cd\
    cd "Nvidiainspector\"
    nvidiaInspector.exe -setBaseClockOffset:0,0,135 -setMemoryClockOffset:0,0,250 -setGpuClock:0,2,925 -setMemoryClock:0,2,2250 -forcepstate:0,0
    nvidiaInspector.exe -setBaseClockOffset:1,0,135 -setMemoryClockOffset:1,0,250 -setGpuClock:1,2,925 -setMemoryClock:1,2,2250 -forcepstate:1,0
    ||-forcepstate:0,5
    ||-forcepstate:1,5

    Restore default:

    @echo off
    c:
    cd\
    cd "Nvidiainspector\"
    nvidiaInspector.exe -setGpuClock:0,2,790 -setMemoryClock:0,2,2000 -setBaseClockOffset:0,0,0 -setMemoryClockOffset:0,0,0 -forcepstate:0,16

Thanks for all of the info techies! I've got my gpu at 1055 core clock and 2555 memory clock so far (1155 was unstable). This brings my 3dmark11 score (in 720p, benchmarks only) from about 2230 to 2860, which would indicate a performance boost proportional to the clock speed.

    ***EDIT***
Just ran 3dmark again at 1105 all the way through the benchmarks. Scored 2939 on 3dmark! Now I'll have to test this with furmark.

    ***EDIT***
Score of 1075 in furmark running in 1080p (11fps avg), 78C max. Seems pretty stable, considering I'm running this on the little 14" Y400 :D.

Has anyone here managed to increase the gpu voltage to push the core clocks higher? Also, are you guys testing 3dmark in 1080 or 720p? :p

How are you able to get past the base core of 790 Mhz? No matter what I do, it won't overclock, but the RAM will.

Also, the Batch files refuse to work it just says || was unexpected at this time. This is driving me nuts.

As others suggested, need to have the batch files in the C directory, under the folder named "nvidiainspector". You have to use that exact name and filepath, or otherwise it wont work. You also need to have the nvidia inspector program open before you run the .bat, I think. For getting it above 790, you must have the nvidia 310.9 drivers installed (I had the same issue before). Drivers newer than that wont let you overclock the gpu.

    Got it working. Thx again.

But does anyone have issues with the second GPU not loading up to 100%? GPU-Z will say it continually go from 90% to 75% and back up.

Thanks for these. One thing, for the memory overclock. GPU-Z seems to split the 250 offset between the core clock and the boost. Is that right?

Just for curiosity, what was the solution? In case the problem repeats for someone else (maybe me when I get in a few days my laptop heh)

I just put nvidiainspector in c:\Nvidiainspector and created the two batch files posted above.
