I'm a Y470P owner, and recently my home laptop, an asus g73jh crapped out, so after loving my Y470P, I figured I would stick with Lenovo. First thing I ever do in any of my laptops is upgrade the wireless to an intel dual band card 6200/6300 series. Now I know the trouble with doing that with lenovos (bought a generic 6250 for it and it rejected then bought a ebay, chinese lenovo whitelisted 6250 an worked great). Now I would follow that same route again for this one but my understanding is the wifi card houses the bluetooth as well, so therefore I would need an intel 6230 or 6235 card which is dam near impossible to find a whitelisted one (i don't want to go bluetooth dongle route).
Now i talked to 5 different online chat reps and 1 tech support over the phone to see if they could sell me an upgrade (they said they couldn't) but all reps said the y500 does not have restrictions on wireless replacements. So can anyone verify that? (I do not have my y500 yet still in transit)
Thanks

OK, just curious if anyone has a solution for me, of course the bios is locked. The included wifi is horrible, I cant get near the connection rate that my other devices in the house get (running intel 6300, 6250, and a 6205) which is about 270-450mbps, where this one gets 1-270mbps (usually closer to 1mbps). I purchased an intel 6235 and a BCM43228HMB (which is in the approved list) but neither work. My bios is 2.04 so there is no unlocked bios (yet) any help would be appreciated.
