So I've had my Y500 for about 4 months now, and just today I noticed something quite unusual to me when I clicked a link from a friend to RateMyTeachers.com- Professor, Teacher Ratings and Reviews by Public and Private School Students Parents and Faculty.. I noticed the blue borders on the sides of the screen were flickering and wavering like crazy, but nothing else displayed a single problem.
After some research, I've found other posts showcasing such instances of flickering on different makes and models of laptops.
Here's a prime example that I found:

The above image drives my screen absolutely wild.
I'm wondering if all Y500 15" 1080p screens have this problem, or if this is an isolated issue for my particular Y500 screen.
Anyone with (or even without) a Y500, please do let me know if you do or do not see the flickering on your screens!
Thanks so much, everyone!

It seems like a problem with the LCD ribbon cable/connector. That is just a guess though. I would contact lenovo support and get them to fix it.
I actually had a problem with my cable too though not your problem exactly. My screen would just display green. I fixed it temporarily but taking apart the laptop and putting it back together. Then later on, I sent in my laptop for a different problem (overheating) and didnt mention the screen problem. When I got it back, the report said that they replaced a faulty screen cable so they had some way of detecting the problem without specifically looking for it I guess. -
This is completely normal and I get the flickering with that image as well. I have used three Y500 units so far and all have had this. It's called inversion (pixel-walk) and it's normal for LCD displays. See here: Inversion (pixel-walk) - Lagom LCD test
