Is this the same score everyone else with the same Y500 specs is getting for their score? (check sig)
Also, if I put in a mSATA SSD and used that as my primary, wouldn't the primary hard disk go up to 7.6-7.9?
Thanks.. I know these are meaningless, but simple curiosity drives me.

My HD score went up to 7.9 with an SSD. The graphics became the "low" score.

You aren't going to be launching any applications off of the mechanical HDD (that is what the 256GB mSATA SSD is for). So you won't take advantage of any performance improvement by going from 5400rpm --> 7200rpm. Additionally, a 7200rpm drive will generate more heat and drain more power (lower battery life) than a 5400rpm drive. Save your money, and stick with a 5400rpm 1TB drive instead.
When it comes to bulk media storage, you want the slowest, coolest-running mechanical HDD you can find. Going to 7200rpm is actually not a good thing. -
I have actually been looking into just getting a 256GB mSATA SSD as I said and then just saving for a 256GB 2.5" SSD and performing RAID 0. This is possible, right...

Even if it was, it's not worth it.
RAID-0 is a colossal headache, for absolutely zero benefit to 99.9% of users out there. The only time RAID-0 has any actual real-world benefit is for people who need to do frequent large sequential writes. You will only find that with professional video and photo editors.
So unless you are a professional photo or video editor, don't bother with RAID-0. Using your 2.5" SATA drive bay for bulk storage (5400rpm 1TB mechanical HDD) is far more valuable. -

Without further ado, here are my scores. Running on Windows 8 Pro x64 with a 1125/2250 OC on GT 650M SLI and the 1TB 5400 RPM HDD.

I don't think the scores can go above 7.9 even on W8...

BTW what overclock are you running? I've been using 1120/2250 without touching voltage the entire time I've had this thing. Seems very stable so far as I haven't had single crash even during hours of prolonged gaming in the summer heat. Pretty amazed at how far this humble 650M can be pushed. -
