I've done searches and have not found anyone with a similar issue. Running Windows 8 with fast boot selected, my bluetooth disappears from the device manager after next startup. The only way to get it back is to do a restart which is a full startup and not the hybrid startup. Can someone with the Wireless-N 2230 check to see if they have a similar issue? I've been running with fast boot disabled because of this issue and since I had the 16gb msata drive, the boot up speed was still very fast. Now the ty SanDisk msata took a crap and I'm revisiting this issue. I've tried many different drivers, and have messed with the bios settings. Think it is the crappy Intel wifi adapter but want to confirm since nobody out there seems to be complaining. Thanks!

Fast Boot setting is in the Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Power Options -> Choose what the power buttons do -> Shutdown settings -> Turn on fast startup (recommended)

Yep, you hit the nail on the head. Exact same thing happens to me too. Bluetooth also disappears after waking the computer from sleep. It seems that the only way to get it back is to do a restart and not the Windows 8 hybrid shutdown/boot. Event Viewer shows the same Event 3 and Event 17 for BTHUSB every time the Bluetooth dies:

I've already tried every combination of enabling/disabling Bluetooth, WLAN, and USB power saving features and such but no dice. Drivers seem to make no difference either. I remember someone else mentioning that certain Windows Updates were to blame and if you didn't install them you wouldn't get this problem but that's not true. I reformatted this weekend and the problem was there before I installed a single Windows Update. I wasn't able to test out whether this issue occurred using the Windows generic Bluetooth driver instead of the Intel one, but I don't see why you would use that anyway as it's probably missing a lot of functionality provided by the Intel driver.

I think the reason (almost) nobody has mentioned this issue is that apparently very few Y400/Y500 owners use Bluetooth. I'm pretty sure this is a problem that occurs on every unit and both Y500's I have used had it. In fact, it may be a general issue with Windows 8 as Windows 7 had this problem and Microsoft eventually issued a downloadable hotfix for it, but no such hotfix has been released for Windows 8 (yet). If you use Bluetooth accessories frequently I can see this becoming a major pain because you can never shut down/hibernate/sleep or else you'll lose functionality of your Bluetooth-connected devices until you reboot.

Thanks n1smo. So far, the Y500 has been nothing but trouble for me, punctuated by brief moments of working great and gaming like a champ. I will be on my 3rd unit (2nd replacement) and am keeping my fingers crossed for finally getting a keeper. The silver lining is that I can provide insight on forums for other Y500 owners who are experiencing problems as I have probably run into the same ones at some point or another.

No, Windows 8 and/or the Intel Bluetooth drivers are to blame. M$ needs to pull their heads out of their butts and release the same hotfix they did for Windows 7 systems that had this same problem.
