After days and days of searching the internet for a laptop that suits my needs I think the y500 is the one I want. There is one thing that still makes me hesitate. The mobility.

How do you rate the mobility of the y500? I'm not talking about battery life. Is it bulky, thick and heavy? Or is it rather slim and not a big difference between normal non-gaming laptops? I found it really hard to tell from pictures and movies of the y500.
Do you really notice it's a gaming laptop when you carry it around? Or could it be a somewhat multimedia laptop if you don't know the specs?

    Thank you.

Took this picture as I was on a plane to Spain about 3 hours ago. Optimistic? And this is in airplane mode and I don't know how much the wifi drains the battery.

If the image is too small, it reads 6 hr and 13 mins remaining.

Thank you very much for your reply but it is not the battery life that concerns me but rather the slimness off the laptop. I'm afraid it is too bulky/thick for me.

I finallly got my laptop after more than 6 weeks of waiting. Here are my thoughts about portability.

    Cons :

    1. Heavy at 6+lbs so not really considered ultra portable
    2. AC adapter is huge since this laptop requires alot of power for the i7 quad core + SLI 650m
    3. No Optimus even tho the CPU has the HD4000, the battery life will be short

    Pros:

    1. 650m SLI + i7 nuff said
    2. Pretty red back light keyboard
    3. Looks really nice and sleek with the design
    4. Msata + 1TB harddrive + option harddrive caddy = massive storage potential
    5. Cooling system seems to really work well despite it is running 650m all the time.

If your looking for a gaming laptop with this much power your not gonna find anything smaller or cheaper. The only notebooks I can think of that is smaller and has atleast a Geforce 660m is the Alienware 14 or the Asus G46W.

Instead of getting a super light Asus or Acer ultrabook I decided to get this gaming notebook + a Windows 8 Tablet

Thanks a lot for the reply. I found this picture on the internet somewhere and in my opinion it doesn't look that thick.

Is it me or is the y500 not much thicker than other 15.6" laptops that are not for gaming?
