    Hi there.

I recently bought an y500 with double gt650, core i7 and 8gb 1600 ddr3 memory. After changing to 2x8gb 1600 drr3 kingston I always have to boot laptop twice cause the first time I see blackness & keyboard lights only, even without lenovo logo. I called the Lenovo support twice, where firstly they told me to hold the power switch while battery and cable were plugged out in forward to discharge capacitors.
Of course that didn't help, so after second call they told me I am not supposed to change Ram in my laptop cause there's impossible to upgrade it correctly without warranty service (well played). So I came back with Y500 and its problem to the store to find out what the hell is going on with Ram Id bought there earlier and return or exchange it. 5 Rams later I gave up. In each case, after changing to each memory problem returns.
Of course Ram is recognizable by the Bios and OS.

    Any ideas?

What happens when you put the original 8GB of RAM back into the laptop? Do you still get the weird boot issues?

If yes, I would just put the original RAM back in there, and get your laptop repaired / replaced as a defective unit by either Lenovo or the store from where you bought it.

Original 2x 4GB 1600 RAM is the only wich works well.

Could the core i7 3630qm configuration be the reason? I've heard this issue is related only to Lenovo ideapad Y500 with that processor.

No. It has nothing to do with the processor. You're either buying a brand of incompatible RAM, you're installing the RAM incorrectly, or your motherboard is somehow damaged.

Since your system works with SOME brands of RAM but not others, I suspect that you're either buying a brand of incompatible RAM or installing it improperly.

The reason that you hear about the Core i7-3730QM is because most Lenovo Y400 / Y500 laptops ship with that processor. It makes sense that if the 3730QM is in 90% of all Lenovo Y400 / Y500 that are shipped, then they would get 90% of the problems people report.

Theres no way Im installing them incorrectly. The only ram working are the original one - 2x 4gb 1333MHz unknown brand. I dont think motherboard is somehow damaged, cause it wouldnt read any kind of ram instead of working with the original only in such a case, dont you think?. Anyway, Ive heard that issue is common, but theres no offical word from Lenovo yet. I am wondering if upadting bios in near future can solve the problem. Or if the motherboard replace is a necessity.

If you're positive that you're instlaling the RAM properly, then the most likely reason is incompatible RAM.

In a typical computer system, these problems would need to be solved with a BIOS update. However, I would not recommend that for the Lenovo Y500.
    1) There currently isn't a BIOS update available for the system.
    2) Future BIOS updates probably won't address this problem, since Lenovo only needs to guarantee compatibility with factory-configured RAM.

My recommendation here is to buy RAM brand / model that other people have used, and can confirm will work.

The only RAM that I have personally used in a Lenovo Y500 is this:
    Amazon.com: Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3 1600 MHz (PC3 12800) Laptop Memory (CMSX16GX3M2A1600C10): Computers & Accessories

I personally cannot say whether any other brand / model / configuration of RAM will work. I can only say that this particular RAM kit works in my system.
