I'm about to replace the 1TB stock HDD with a 240GB SSD in my Lenovo Y510P. I have a few questions:

    1. I have a copy of Windows 8.1 Enterprise edition from MSDN. Lenovo also sent me their 4 CD set recovery disks. Any preference over which OS I should install ?
    2. If I choose to install my own copy of OS, will I be able to obtain all the necessary drivers to get my machine back running 100 % ?
    3. How do I get the Lenovo to boot from a USB flash drive ? How do I put the ISO on a flash drive ? Do I need to toggle anything in the bios for it to work ?

    Thanks.

    1. I'd go for W8.1 Enterprise. More features.
    2. Yep. Grab them on Lenovo's site, and if you are missing a few gimme a PM i'll send you them.
    3. Windows 7 USB DVD Tool | Works with W8/Vista

Thanks I was able to create the bootable usb install for 8.1.

My only concern now is the actual installation of the ssd. I'm really afraid I'll break something or strip a screw. Are there any videos available which show this step by step. I've already seen the service manual by lenovo and those 9 screws scare the out of me ...

Hopefully your Windows key is configured to bios...if you try to install win enterprise it will throw an error as key miss match...
You have to add PID.txt under sources directiry and add the enterprise key....search in Google you will get the content to be added inside the file.

If hes getting his copy from MSDN he should have his own serial.

no, that not i meant to say.. even though you have the valid key for enterprise version, while installing the Clean install from USB/DVD it will validate with your BIOS win Key and that key is for Home edition it will not work with enterprise so throws an error and will not continue your installation.

if you're upgrading with in Home premium within Windows, you can use your Enterprise key.
