Can someone that owns the Y510p please open it up and measure to see if a 60mm NGFF card will fit in the 42mm slot?
The higher capacity NGFF cards are just longer, so if there's sufficient room past the screw, Y510p owners can probably install 64GB-128GB SSDs in the NGFF slot.

So... there's definitely room for a 62mm NGFF card in there if you want to take the GPU heatsink out and modify it.

Nope. 42mm is it.

Where do you even buy NGFF SSDs? I want to upgrade too but it doesn't seem like they're available to consumers yet.

There is no extra space for anything bigger/longer. It has to be 42mm.

The decision to go with M.2 instead of mSATA is the single biggest mistake Lenovo made with this machine. What were they thinking? There are no benefits in this case, only drawbacks.

You can either go for Y500. Or give up sli or optical drive and use ultrabay for second HDD.
