    Hey All!

I've had the y510p sli for about 3-4 months and am really starting to worry about the temps. I know I should have expected this but it just seems to be too much. I even bought the coolermaster u3(it only shaves off 4 degrees of the processor temps) but the problem still remains. Someone on this forum posted a script to run the fans continuously at full speed(by using the lenovo dust removal program). Will it noticeably impact the fan's life?

Also if you have re-pasted your ultrabay gpu does it void your warranty?

My Temps:(While using coolermaster u3 in an air conditioned room)

    BF3(Ultra -custom) after 1 hour:

    Processor: Max- 80 degrees Celsius
    GPU(internal) : Max- 80 degrees Celsius
Ultrabay GPU: Max- 94 degrees Celcius

The 94 degrees really freaks me out and I'm afraid to play other games like Planetside 2 on High or Ultra again as I fear the heat may take its toll on the gpu.

Any methods to limit my temps without voiding the warranty would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

My ultrabay just hit 97 degrees! Could it have caused any damage?

I'm going to repaste my y410p soon... I just recently did GT750M SLI, and my CPU runs a bit hotter than it used to... It throttles in CS:GO every 10 minutes or so when running at 2.40GHz (WITH -100mV undervolt). So right now I'm just running it at 2.30GHz and it never pushed past 92-ish C.

I am running the Y510P without the back cover on.... it does drop a temp abit and having the cooler fans to push/pull air directly from the heatsinks. You could try it. (Involves removing the 9 screws of the back cover.

Those are seriously disturbing temps :( thats basically the reason why I'm holding back in getting a Y510p despite its great price and seriously considering the Y50 instead.

I'm having to pull down on the graphics settings in an effort to lower the heat temps. There's no point of good hardware if you can't even use it without damaging the laptop itself. I can't take off the back cover as I have to take my laptop around and can't waste time on screwing and unscrewing the back cover.

80C for the internal GPU is alright.

CPU is a little hot IMO, but BF3 is pretty intensive, and since the GPU and CPU share the same heatsink, its not going to be easy to keep the CPU cool when the GPU is running at its full TDP of 50W. However, you could undervolt the CPU a little, it would help.

However, 94 degrees is too hot, and to be honest, I am not surprised, as Lenovo have done an awful job of the UltraBay GPU setup. I am yet to hear of any owners that gets reasonable temperatures for such a setup without modifying anything.

    What you can do:
    (1) Repaste the UltraBay GPU (Some people have reported good results in doing this)
    (2) Use the fan cleaning script that someone has made - No, I don't think it should decrease the lifetime of your fan noticeably.
    (3) Undervolt the UltraBay GPU.

To be honest, I don't think you'll ever get good temperatures, as the whole setup is simply a major design flaw. You'll just have to cope with what you can achieve.

I actually do think my ultrabay is defective(may not be pasted properly) as I'm getting even higher temps than the average y510p sli user and I don't even play too gpu intensive games like metro last light or Crysis 3. Is it possible to get a replacement under the warranty?
