Hi there, to all those who were constantly checking their status on the laptop, can you tell me the steps in which the laptop was being made. Currently, the website I believe is inaccurate because when I called to see my order status, they said it was being processed. Does that mean that it's almost available to ship, or does that mean it's just being made now? Thanks to those who have already been through this strenuous step of waiting!

It seems to me they're not very serious with their updates. As of 5pm, mine says "estimated ship date: XXX" where XXX is yesterday. Status is "released to manufacturing". I called customer support, but they don't seem to have anything beyond what's displayed in the website.

Same here with my y410p. A bit frustrating the information is so unreliable.

A large part of a machine's reliability comes from it's manufacturer's ability to back it up. If this mess is due to management problems, they are not going to be able to back it up. If it's due to manufacturing problems, I'd rather pass on the corner-cutty result. Either way, there are comparable offers from HP and MSI, and I might lug my old machine for a month to see what "back to school" releases come along.

Considering doing the same. Anything that comes close to it at 850-900 USD?

I'm considering this. If I read correctly, it has a metal chassis top, although I don't like the look too much. I had gotten this:
    Y510p
    Intel i7-4700MQ
    Ati GT 750M
    8 mb ram
    15.6" 1080 display
    internal dvd
    5.95 lb
    2 year protection
    for about 1,100

I could configure the HP Envy 15t-j000 Quad edition
    Intel i7-4700MQ
    Ati GT 740M
    16 mb ram
    15.6" 1080 display
    external dvd
    2 year protection
    4.81 lb
    for about the same price
