    Hi,

I just got a Lenovo Y510p laptop and it came with an ELAN touchpad, not Synaptics.
I had a Y500 with Synaptics and strangely find my Y510 ELAN more responsive.
Anyway, I was wondering if I could select a area where the cursor won't move
(specifically where you left & right click to prevent the cursor accidentally moving when I click a link).

Also, I really dislike how the volume up/down and brightness keys are mapped to the arrows (plus mute key is mussing!).
Is there any way to re-assign the Fn keys so I can have the volume mute/up/down and brightness up/down assigned to Fn functions on
    keys F7-F11?

You can use Keytweak ( download link here) but it doesnt work with FN keys sadly, as those are low-level hardware keys.

As for the buttons, i dont know, but i love my ELAN pad, especially after configuring it

Glad Lenovo fixed something about the Y500, now Lenovo, please implement better cooling so i can give your laptop a 10/10 :)

Thanks for the program, I'll try it out. Maybe there is some way to change the Fn keys in the BIOS...

well to make this happen, they probably have to make the laptop thicker like most of the other gaming laptops. that heat is mainly because of the 750m gpu. those faster but hotter gpu's lol. notice how every gaming laptop's temps increased when they switched from 600m to 700m series gpu?

Are you still looking to fix your volume keys? I found a way to do it through AutoHotkey

I have a couple pre-written scripts that are really easy to install and would allow you to control volume and to control itunes using the keys above the number pad. Let me know if you're interested.

Or use dual-fans like the ASUS laptops (which weigh a bit more).

    xzeldax3,
Did you get get the issue with the touchpad fixed?

I have used other new-fangled touchpads without the left/right buttons and know exactly what issue you're talking about with the cursor moving when you click. I am considering purchasing this laptop but from a usability factor, this is important. From looking at some recent posts on Reddit, it appears that this issue was resolved by removing and downloading the touchpad driver directly from Synaptics, but you have an Elan, so that won't help you (but maybe doing this directly with Elan would help?). However, that Synaptics solution won't even work, apparently it's a Windows 8.1 thing. Anyway, I'm curious as to any success you've had...

It's totally bizarre that this lack of good user experience with newer trackpads exists. Shouldn't technology get better over time?
