Hey guys. I've tried searching but nothing with my problem seems to show up. For some reason my wifi keeps cutting off from the internet if the leave the PC idle for a while. It says connected but no internet. I have my power management set up to a custom where it does not shut anything off when plugged in. I would leave it running to download and quite a number of times I've come back to stopped downloads. When I looked at the Windowss wireless interface it always says No Internet. The only way to remedy this is to disconnect from the network and reconnect. I made sure the network adapter didn't turn itself off for power savings. Has anyone else had this problem?
This is the only laptop I've seen this problem with on my network. WRT54GS with Tomato firmware. Thanks for any help.

Someone else on this forum also complained about Wifi problems with the Y550's. Hopefully, for current and future customers of the Y550, Lenovo will do its job by correcting this problem ASAP.

Last night before bed I did download the newest driver from Lenovo. I haven't tested it yet but when I get home from work I'll give it a try. I hope that's all it needed.
-
Please keep us updated.
Btw, do you have a link to the new driver from Lenovo? -
My y550 should be arriving in like 3 days, I hope I don't have this problem.
-
Sorry, I guess it was the latest driver for the 5100 AGN from Intel as the Lenovo website does not have any drivers/downloads whatsoever for the Y550.
Here is the link to the Intel download.

After coming home from work, I uninstalled the ReadyComm since I was reading that it was the cause of some problems. Rebooted and started up my downloads again, closed my laptop and came back 15 minutes later to no internet connectivity. I had to disconnect and reconnect to get it to work again.
With the week delay I had on my laptop and taking them over a week to get back to me via email I'm just contemplating returning it even though overall it's a really nice laptop. -
Do you guys think it is possible that ipv6 may be the culprit?
-
I am not sure how to address this issue or how to correct it other than by contacting Lenovo directly.
Maybe a Lenovo rep can offer some help by posting answers to this thread? -
While Mark@Lenovo occasionally visits this forum to respond to an issue, he's not a regular participant.

Well, I'll keep trying to see if I can fix it. I absolutely love everything about this thing except that.
-
Mine should be arriving soon and my internet is wireless.
I have no access to an Ethernet cable so this would hurt me. -
I thought I had fixed it last night. Left my lid closed and downloading for a good 2-3 hours. Came back and wifi was still connected. Get home from work not too long ago. Power it on with lid open and I left it there for about 45-1 hour. Came back to see it saying connected to network, no internet. I've about had it. I might just send this thing back.
-
ROFL. It just disconnected on me as I hit reply. See ya Y550. It was good while it lasted.
-
Thank you for the info concerning Mark. I hope he will respond to this issue because I plan to receive my Y550 sometime next week and now I am worried that it has this WIFI problem in all of the Y550's [based on customer complaints in this thread and elsewhere].

While I was honestly planning on sending the machine back I fiddled with the drivers yet again. Removed the 5100 driver and reinstalled. I only had 1 dropped connection since then. It's pretty unacceptable when you think about it, but it's such a solid machine overall and I got it at an awesome price that I couldn't help but try and fix it.
