Hello everyone.
Quick advice needed. My Budget is around 700-750$. Looking for a laptop that will hold me through 1-2 years. Need one for education and some gaming on the go so to speak.
It boils down to y560p or y570.
The y560p that I'm looking at has i7 2630qm. And naturally 6570m.
the y570 for the same price would have i5 2410m and a gt 555m.
planning to use it for Office, Word, SPSS. As for games : Gothic 3, Doom 3, SC2, L4D2 and stuff from pre 2005 era.
Which do you think would be a better choice?
Thanks

Bump.
Can mods move the thread to "what should I buy" ? ( now that I think about it, that thread would've been more appropriate) -
The few people who have had the y560p have said it was terrible. Build quality just isn't what it was for the previous y460/y560. The GPU is going to be the bottleneck as far as games go and it doesn't seem that you'll need the i7 2630. My vote is the y570 as it can do just as much as the y560p and has a larger user base to get feedback on. Good luck!
P.S. No bumping for 24 hours. -

Y560P hasn't got switchable graphics. Y570 has Optimus. Y570 therefore has better battery life.
This might also be compounded by the actual battery Whr rating. The Y470/Y570 uses 62Whr batteries with perhaps the older Y460/Y560 using 48Whr ones.
So double-whammy for the Y560P on battery life. -

After seing this I'm not even sure it's worth the difference. I mean the FPS difference is 4-5 on avg games I assume between 6570 and 555. And I'll have i7 and 4 cores...which should be good for SC2 and such that uses multiple cores optimizations.
But you guys suggest that y570 is the way to go ? -
Well after boiling my brains over decission, I decided to go with y570 version with following specs:
i72630Qm
8gb ddr3 1333
500gb 7200rpm
without blue-ray player.
Cost after tax : 930$ with 2 year warranty
cost of y560p was 750$ with 2 year warranty
But it was 4gb vs 8 gb and 8gb ram is another 50$ replacement. 1.3mp vs 2.0 mp , 6570 is 20% slower in the end then even the butchered 555m ( found some reviews on russian sites), 500gb 7200rpm hdd is another 65-70$ and usb 3.0 Given the fact that I would replace hdd and ram eventually, the price difference boils down to 65$ for a faster GPU, better battery, usb 3.0 support and better webcam.
I think that's reasonable? Now I will have to do some ebay selling to get the current price difference settled...hmmm oh well I wanted to get rid of my unused hardware anyway. -

Ehh missed the HP coupon code ( for some reason it didn't work for my studet acc....until I logged off..and now it works).
bigger harddrive, same screen, 6770 with ddr5....1 year warranty and 9-cell lythium bat. AND 60$ cheaper at that. That y570 better hold up. -
That's is one of my gripes about these Ideapads; The awful screens. 1366x768 is bad enough on a 15.6 inch screen and not to forget the horrible contrast and terrible viewing angles... Rant over. -
In the end I purchased the y570. Don't get the warranty from Lenovo or HP. Get it through squaretrade with 20% off. Much cheaper, awesome service (though all mail in, no at home or phone help). -
Nah, 3 year warranty from Lenovo is cheaper then squaretrade for the given laptop.
Ordered y570 anyway. I've heard HP already fixed the open GL games problem. But I don't respect that company anymore after that "HP academy" account and copuons problem, this is rediculous -> if you're a student, go and pay more ? seriously?
Anyway we can close the thread. I'll join the y470 and y570 club as soon as I get my laptop -
Just checked the prices for comparison.
3 Year in home lenovo care with accident protection - $229
Square trade 3 year year warranty with accident protection - $179
The square trade warranty is cheaper because of the 20% coupon and its tax free.
Regardless, congrats on your new y570. You'll love it.
Y560P or Y570.
