backstory: my GPU was overheating so i decided to apply some new thermal paste on.

so the re-pasting went successfully and my temps dropped 20-30C but i notice my wifi seems to be disabled. i play with the hardware switch and nothing. i also notice my GPU light wasn't coming on when i switched it but it was derfinitely working (Borderlands 2 and Skyrim ran silky smooth after 30mins each and the nVidia app was detecting dGPU usage).

basically, i was getting the same symptoms as this user:
Y570 - Wireless, Right USB ports, GPU switch not f... - Lenovo Community

i followed the Y570 complete disassembly video and narrowed it down to when i got to 5:23, the USB board. i guess when i disconnected the cable from the mobo the little protective tab broke because it later fell out. i didn't notice any damage on the cable but when i reassembled it i still put the tab back in place but it felt a bit loose so i used a small slice of clear plastic tape to hold it together. i made sure not to get any tape on the pins but a bit of tape had to go onto the cable.

it looked connected and secure but i guess that still didn't help...anyone have any advice?
