    Y580 Backlight on the Spacebar Key

    The spacebar key on my Y580 only seems to be illuminated on the left end of the key. Is this intentional for styling, or is the light busted on the spacebar key? I watched some videos showcasing the Y580 keyboard, and it seemed like some were fully illuminated for the spacebar key, and others weren't?

    It has always been that way even in the early CES demo units. The left end side of the spacebar is illuminated to show the function key (fn+spacebar toggles the backlit keyboard).

    My space-bar is completely lit up... (Even on the right hand side.)

    Mine is the same as yours.. only the left side is lit up.

    My space bar is only backlit under the left side on the front as well. I've seen videos of others with the same design, so it must be intentional.

    how weird.

    looks like they cheapened out on the led's. Oh wait, other laptops don't have an led under the spacebar. So this is ok.



    dude also mentions how there used to be a plastic piece on the lid on previous models for better wifi reception.

    Now i'm assuming wifi sucks because the lid is all covered in metal now ??

    In the video review from MobileTech, it almost looks like the spacebar should be fully backlit, or at least the left and bottom portion (skip to 7:04 of the video)...might just be certain units only.

    Not really a big deal, but thought I'd point it out. As the poster above mentioned, laptops from other manufacturers also don't have the spacebar backlit anyways.

    full spacebar would've been nice, but not a deal breaker.

    Mine was the whole space bar... the right side isn't lit anymore. I just noticed it last night when I turned it on. O_O

    my first defective one had it only on the left side.. this new replacement has it on both sides although right side doesnt seem as bright..

    some hp keyboards only have it on the left too.

    the light is only meant to light up the decal, not the whole perimeter of the keys.

    ideally, there should be no light leakage on the perimeters at all.
