hey guys thought i would make this thread so people can post any DIY changes such as repaste, HDD change or RAM changes.

I was also wondering if anyone needs either a picture or video guide for a RAM and HDD change? My lenovo y580 comes in soon and i will be swapping out the HDD for a SSD and the RAM will also be changed. I can post a video guide or a picture guide if anyone needs it :) let me know :)

If someone could create a video guide on how to install an msata hard drive on this laptop and then install windows on that, that'd be great. I'm sure many people would appreciate it.

I've reinstalled the OS a couple of times now for various reasons, but this method worked best for me.

Here is my driver install guide:

    I) Download the drivers for your Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 from Lenovo.com

    01-Intel Wireless LAN Driver 0pwl06ww.exe 229 MB

    02-Intel Chipset Driver 0pah07ww.exe 2.48 MB

    03-Intel Rapid storage Technology 0pst04ww.exe 11.3 MB

    04-Intel Management Engine Interface 0pme05ww.exe 45.5 MB

    05-Intel Onboard Graphics Driver 0pvh07ww.exe 208 MB

    06-Nvidia Display Driver 0pvl13ww.exe 443 MB

    07-Intel USB 3.0 Driver 0pus05ww.exe 5.39 MB

    08-Realtek Audio Driver 0pau08ww.exe 151 MB

    09-Atheros LAN Driver 0pla03ww.exe 5.31 MB

    10-Jmirco Card Reader Driver 0pcr02ww.exe 1.39 MB

    11-Broadcom Bluetooth Driver 0pbl08ww.exe 297MB

    12-TouchPad Driver (Cypress, Synaptics) 0pto14ww.exe 142MB

13-Camera Driver (Bison, Chicony, AzureWave) 0pca05ww.exe 34.5MB (This is a Zip File, unpack, then go to Device Manager, then manually update the Webcam Drivers by pointing to the 64-bit Drivers in the extracted folder)

    14-Lenovo Energy Management cagt24ww.exe 21.2MB

    15-OneKey Recovery 7.0 caot11ww.exe 278MB

    Optional:

    16-Lenovo EE Boot Optimizer v0.0.1.7 IN8STW15WW5.exe

    17- Windows Hotfixes Hotfix qfxg01ww.exe 980KB Hotfix qfxf01ww.exe 859KB

18-Intel Disable ZPODD Register v2.0 IN1PCH43WW5.exe (turns off your DVD Drive when not in use to save power)

II) Install the drivers you just downloaded ONE BY ONE in the numbering order in which they are listed above! They are numbered that way for a reason! Please do not change that order if you want everything to work perfectly!

PLEASE RESTART YOUR COMPUTER AFTER EVERY DRIVER INSTALLATION, I know this may take longer, but if you want a perfect system, restart after every driver/utility installation, even though it doesn't prompt you to restart, don't take any shortcuts! RESTART ON YOUR OWN!

Final notes: Intel.com has updated WiFi drivers. Nvidia.com has updated 660M drivers. I had trouble with the on-board graphics driver, so I used Windows update for that one. I also had trouble with the 660M driver so I used the Nvidia.com beta driver IIRC 304.79. I had trouble with the WiFi driver as well so I used the Intel.com driver. Finally I had trouble with the Realtek audio driver, so I used the Realtek.com driver.

Either way I was very disappointed with Lenovo.com's drivers provided. So if they do not work just get them from the hardware's manufacturer's site.

    3) After installing all the drivers and utilities, run Windows Update again and check if it finds any new updates

HDD install and OS install is simple stuff, any youtube video will work.
