I am loving this baby. Just got it last week and already have my 256GB Samsung 830 SSD rocking this baby out. Gaming on it is just beautiful.

Now, the only gripe that is driving me nuts, aside from the horrid touchpad, is the fan noise. It seems like its hitting something and it gets really annoying while gaming. Anyone else experience this? Is it something that I can fix myself or should I replace the fan? If so, which one and where do I get it?

Really? Nobody? I guess I was spoiled with the Alienware forums. Much more action there... =/

What fan noise, it's almost completely silent even during extended gaming. As a matter of fact I can always hear the U2 fans over the Y580s.

Obviously my unit came defective, somewhat. It seems like one of the blades is hitting something. Regardless, I have a noise issue.

Now, where do I find a fan to replace this with?!

My unit doesn't make that fan noise. Did the problem start happening after you installed your SSD, or was it always like that?
If your within your return window,I would just ask for an exchange.

I came like that. I would go through and exchange, but Amazon is backordered for 1-2 months on replacements for that unit. =/

Do you think I can get it replaced via Lenovo even though it was ordered via Amazon?!

Yes, you still have a factory lenovo warranty as long as you bought it brand new and have proof of purchase etc. But you would have to deal with Lenovo's customer "Service." It is probably defective fan bearings.

in this case, i would let lenovo customer service take care of it.

for $850, you don't want to lose this unit.

the laptop is easy to disassemble, so you really don't have to worry about the repairman breaking anything.
replacing the fan is easy for them

I'm confident a monkey could get this repaired. I was just hoping to avoid the whole hassle of shipping it to them and being without my laptop for a period of time. Hence my original questions. Can the fan be purchased separately? If so, where can I find it? I don't mind paying $20 out of my own pocket to replace it myself and not have to part ways with my laptop.

no. these parts can't be bought. you have to give it to lenovo for repair.

but from what i've seen here, you should get your laptop back within a week.

i'm not sure if they make you send it to a local repair center, but there are tons of computer shops that do repair for lenovo

oh yeah, and this thing is way over $20, and not worth the trouble of taking apart.
