OK, so I just purchased a Y580 from eBay with a 3160m i7 processor and a 660m graphics card. I gave it a fresh install, an SSD, and 16gb of ram, and I tried playing Need for Speed Hot Pursuit (2010). 15-20 fps. I then installed Madden 2007 and it also gave me 15-20 fps while my Intel 4000 maxed it out no problem.

    What gives? Here's a screen-cap from GPU-Z:

    Here's a screen-cap while running the GPU-Z render test:

I haven't tried any other games yet but as soon as I do I'll post an update. Should I RMA it?

    Thanks,

Do you have your power plan on Lenovo Dynamic Graphics?

Yep. Not sure what the deal is. The memory clock refuses to go over 1500mhz while bench-marking and the core clock is stuck at 850mhz as well.

Doesn't seem like anything is wrong with your gpu. Sounds like software/user error to me.

that just shows that the card isn't running at all. GPU load is 0%, which means your gpu test is running off the Intel graphics. If you change the gpu-z sensor to Intel IGP in the drop down box at the bottom, you'll probably see some gpu load on the igp.

However, the gtx does turn on, because gpu-z is able to turn it on and leave it at idle.

    try an older nvidia driver.

also, in the nvidia control panel, manually set the program to run on the dgpu

you can also set the default global setting to run everything off the gtx, just to test that your graphics card is working properly.
you can go back later and fine tune it.

OK, so I managed to tweak the settings in order to enable the GTX, but the memory clock won't go over 1250mhz and it's reaching 78c after running Crysis for roughly 30min. The temperature kinda concerns me. I'm going to run OCCT to see how hot the card gets...

    1250 is correct.

    it's ddr, so 1250x2 = 2500mhz effective

78c is cool as far as gpu's go. it can go into the 90's without breaking anything.

The only thing you need to run is Furmark for 1 hour to make sure there are no glitches and artifacts.

Oh, well I feel like a moron. I thought I heard that most 660m's stayed under 70c but maybe I misread. Thanks for the help. ;)
