So I've had my Y580 for 5 days now; everything has been running smooth with no problems. However, since this morning, my hard-drive seems to be getting really hot. Now I know that the Y580 has a notorious problem about the hard-drive's abnormal temperatures since it's positioned between the CPU and GPU, but this seems even higher than what I expected. I measured it with SpeedFan and found it to be 58C, while the GPU and CPU were both fairly cool. I can really feel it when I place my hand on the touchpad, or underneath the laptop near the hard-drive. I'm not sure what could be the problem, does anyone have any ideas?

Yesterday after 1 month of ownership my stock Samsung Spin Point 1TB 5400 rpm crapped out. It all the sudden had massive disk errors. No idea how that happened. I replaced it with a Crucial M4 SSD.

Do you have the 1TB drive? If so sounds like we had the same issue. I removed the plastic chicken wire by the intake vents on the bottom to allow more air in.
