I'm planning to buy an Y580 and install my own SSD as a 2nd drive(keeping the default HDD as media storage). I've never done this before on laptops, just on desktops so I need a little bit of confirmation before I make the purchase.
Here is my SSD:
PNY
it's 64gb and I plan to install it with the caddy, which replaces the optical drive.
So far I found a caddy that seems like it would work:

Is this all I need? Any special tools I need to know about?
Thanks

Do you plan to do a clean installation of Windows 7? You can legally download an ISO file (image) of Windows 7 Installation and burn it to a DVD. You should find a way to boot externally from that DVD and install Windows 7 onto your SSD in the caddy adapter. You can use the COA key that came with your Y580 notebook.
Remember to download Lenovo Y580 drivers and save them on a USB flash drive for use after basic Windows 7 installation. Also, remember to change the boot order in BIOS.
It is advisable to remove the stock HDD (which currently is your boot drive) from the main bay while you work on the SSD. After the system boots up from SSD and Windows 7 appears to work fine, put the HDD back in and format it.
