    Hi guys,
Several days ago I ordered the shipment of a Y580 w/ 1 TB 5400 RPM HDD + 32GB mSATA SDD. I also bought a Crucial m4 256GB mSATA SSD. What hard drive set up do you suggest I do? The laptop comes in about four days, and I want to get it up an running with a good hard drive set up the day it comes.

    Thanks!

I will receive mine next Monday. Mine does not have the 32GB mSATA SDD but I bought a 64GB one from Amazon and would like to boost up performance. Will you be doing a clean windows install in the mSATA SDD or what is the strategy you are going to follow?

Like you said, I think I may just clean install windows 7 onto the mSATA SSD, leaving the 1TB HDD for storage space. If I scavenge enough money, maybe ill buy the Samsung 830 2.5" 256GB to replace the 1TB and put a USB enclosure on the 1TB HDD, so that I can use it as an external hard drive. But for now I think I have to can the 32GB SSD that comes with the laptop. It's weird that I bought it in the first place because it was the cheapest Y580 with 1080p w/ respectable specs when I bought it (because of sales).

I just wanted to know if it was better to do all your processes over an SSD hard drive, or just use it as a cache.

I personally moved the 1TB HDD to the ODD slot and installed my SSD in the HDD bay. You can do a few things with the small 32gb mSSD. You can use it for Pagefile and Hibernate to take the load off of your HDD. In my case, I installed Diablo 3 and Guild Wars 2 on it and called it a day.
