I'm looking at moving from my 2009 Macbook pro back to the world of Lenovo and Windows. When it comes to Think v IdeaPad for home use, do they basically trade build quality for spec? For similar money I can get:

    T430
    i7 processor
    8G RAM
    Intel Graphics
    decent display

    Y580
    i7 processor
    8G RAM
    nVidia Graphics
    decent display

The only intensive application I use is photoediting s/w, so don't really need the graphics card ... and I'm happy to trade the screen size. What else would I lose going with the ThinkPad ... a few JBL stickers ... but I'd gain build quality?

Are you looking at the T430 or the T530? If you're doing photoediting I would go with the T530 with the 1080p as it's great a screen for that.

I was thinking of dropping down to the 14" to keep the weight down if ging for a T! The Y580 also seem to have the option of the FHD 1080p display?
