    Hey everyone,

I have a boot problem with my y580.

I have the classic y580 with the higher resolution, 8GB RAM and a 32gb mSata and a 1tb HDD and core i7.

So here is the deal. Once i got my lenovo I followed a guide here to format the msata and to install windows 7 on it. I know it isnt the smartest thing to do since 32gb isnt really enough for Windows 7 pro but my comp was running fine and booting up windows within seconds up until now.

I basically kept only windows on my mSATA and all programs I installed on the 1TB HDD to keep windows running smoothly. However as updates kept installing from windows update, my remaining hard drive space was 850mb when I last shut down my computer. On the next boot up, the computer was stuck on the windows load screen for a really long time (15 min) when it would finally open windows with a message saying something about my Virtual memory being too low. The computer would then go in windows but it was extremely slow i.e. it would take 20 min for anything to open.

So i got fed up, I put in my windows7 cd and i went to reinstall windows. Even the installation itself took a really long time as if the hard drive is still messed up. When it completed, windows opened normally, but on the next restart again It was again taking forever to load up the OS. I now have 7gb free space with the new windows install and everything runs as before once I actually get IN windows but whenever i restart or turn on my computer, Windows still takes 15-20 min to load up as before..

Is my hard drive broken or something ? what can i do to fix this?

Yeah, Windows OS installs tend to not behave very well in confined spaces to begin with. I am by no means an expert but you really need an upgrade. Maybe moving your page file to only your hdd might help. Just for diagnosing the issue you could run crystaldiskmark on the ssd to see what speeds you currently get out of it. I was just reading and SSDs actually do benefit from defragmentation but you'd need special defragmentation software for SSDs. The object of ssd defragmentation is to clear partial blocks of data so that TRIM can erase those blocks.

I'm just throwing a few things out there. With such limited space, your drive may be writing a lot of data for page file every time you boot. SSDs can only be written to so many times before it starts going bad. Look up info on SSD's write endurance. Basically you might have already worn out your msata drive especially in the little space you have left for the page file.
