Back in September, I purchased a Y700-15ISK laptop, and up until about ten days ago I had no problems with it whatsoever.

However, that changed when the screen started flickering intermittently. Initially, I wasn't too concerned, but when I turned my laptop on the following day, the problem became a lot more extreme.

On this occassion, the screen flickered so wildly during the boot-up process, that I had great difficulty logging in. It was only after I'd rebooted my laptop several times, that it became stable enough to use normally.

Over the next few days, the flickering became less frequent, but instead I started experiencing graphical glitching in the form of jagged little white lines which seemed to be triggered mainly by dark colours.

Since then, I've had another awful session where the flickering has made my laptop unusable, and a couple more sessions where I've mainly been affected by the glitching.

I regularly experience the glitching whilst the Lenovo logo is displayed during the boot-up process, and when I access the BIOS, so I assume I'm dealing with a hardware problem as opposed to a Windows 10 problem.

Nevertheless, I did update my drivers, but this made no difference.

The one thing I haven't tried is updating my BIOS. I'm still on CDCN28WW, but I'm aware that the latest version is CDCN52WW.

The reason I'm hesitant to update is because the problems are usually at their worst when I boot-up or reboot my laptop, and I'm worried about what would happen when the laptop reboots during the BIOS update.

For instance, there have been occasions when the screen has flickered and then gone blank during the boot-up process, thus forcing me to press and hold the power button to shut down the machine. But if this happened during a BIOS update, wouldn't I be at risk of bricking my laptop?

Does anyone have any suggestions (aside from updating the BIOS) that could solve this problem, or should I take it back to the shop from which I purchased it (John Lewis in the UK) and see what they suggest?
