I am cosidering a Y730 for an all-around laptop. Use includes the usual stuff like word processing, internet, bookkeeping, but a little gaming, photo/video editing, 2D graphics, movies and possibly TV. Unfortunately no retailers in my area carry it for mee to see in person, and Lenovo charges 15% restocking fee (which I don't blame them for).

    My questions are:

    1. I read harsh critism of the amount of reflection in the screen, and no "anti-glare" optiopn is available for the 7XX series. How bad is it? How do you like the overall quality of the screen?

    2. Can a TV tuner be added?

    3. Is the WXGA+ screen a good choice for my uses?

The screen is like a tinted mirror. If you have any source of light behind you it will reflect on the screen like a mirror. Window, floor lamp, table lamp etc. Overhead lights nowhere near as bad. In lower light you don't get much reflection at all. Outside it's about useless unless you are in a very very very shaded spot. Overall it's a beautiful picture except for the high reflective surface.

None built in but can get USB and maybe one that goes into the express card slot.

I think the WXGA+screen would be fine for your uses.

    Thanks Todd,
Any other overall impressions (likes/dislikes)? I read the DVD drive is pretty loud. Louder than other laptops? How loud is it when watching a movie?

Mostly the dvd makes loud noise when a dvd/cd is inserted and that one logitech dvd sounded loud.

My biggest dislike of the laptop has to be the glossy screen / cover whatever is creating the mirror. Sitting here watching a movie and I can't hear the dvd drive but there are some reflections on the screen in the dark / black areas and scenes in the movies. I can even see the sun reflecting in the sofa arm behind me.

Wonder if there is a film or cover to cut down on the reflection / glare.

    Everything else is great.

    I agree with Todd.

The screen is glossy. The DVD is loud only if your installing something onto your computer. Watching a movie, the sound is minimal. [Slight hum]
