    Have the 15" Y740 with 2070 max-q and I7 8750H.

When I first got it I didnt provide internet access and eventually went into the bios.
I was unsure how and was trying Esc and F2 alternating and maybe was pressing one of the hotkeys on the left by accident or something because the first time I accessed bios there was a tab called advanced, was the 3rd tab on the main page I believe.

Within this tab was pages of options and setting including # of cores, per core speed, gpu tdp(greyed out), etc.
I was overwhelmed so just set to use 4 cores at 4GHz and maybe flipped a few other toggles.

    saved and exit.

upon boot I was running on 4 cores at 4GHz amd no power throttle. Of course to game I connected to internet which I think allowed some update or whatnot to hide the advanced tab of the bios.

I couldnt even re-enable the two cores I disabled, msconfig only allowed up to 4 as the 2 were disabled via bios and not visible at all to the OS.

I would really love to know the secret sauce to unhide the advanced tab again.

Laptop runs great as a quad core but lets be real here lol.

Let me know if you can help. I am running factory 1.07 bios.
Should I upgrade or downgrade bios maybe? Both 1.06 and 1.08 are now available to download.

P.S. I have tried factory reset and it doesnt change anything as far as activating the disabled cores or unhidingbthe advanced tab in bios.

    Cheers and thanks in advance!

For many laptops, there is usually a key combo to get into advanced BIOS with.

Unfortunately, unless it is known what keys are pressed, you can’t enter it again

Anyone have any insight on how to get to this debug mode on the Y740? The Y730/Y530 had a similar debug mode according to some posts on Reddit.

Nobody knows the codes. I asked Lenovo and the guy told me he didn’t even know it was a thing...

I've been unable to find much in the bios file for the Y740 for the advanced menu. The y530 is a CTRL+F in the bios file in HxD to find "Advanced", but it's nowhere to be found on the Y740. I'm not sure how you had access to it, honestly.

I haven't been able to find 1.07 online anywhere either. Maybe it's a weird intermediate BIOS that never made it out of the factory?

Maybe it was a test BIOS version that was supposed to be wiped but didn’t?

It's possible that there is an advanced menu of some sort, just that it's buried in the bios somewhere. I'm doing some further analysis on the BIOS tonight and ill update if I find anything that proves it's at least possible with a BIOS mod.

Edit: Bit of an update. Haven't been able to get into the firmware much further. Also haven't been able to confirm that the advanced tab even exists.

Update: You can access this advanced bios tab now!

While in bios hold FN then run your finger across the keyboard,
    Q-P, A-L, Z-M,
    let go of FN,
    F10, Yes.

Next time in bios advanced will be unlocked!.

I did this when I first got the machine trying to figure out how to access the bios out of frustration lol! Now another user confirmed and it works 100%.

Now to sort through the gundreds of options in there and hopefully not wreck my lappy.

Lenovo are sneaky though, if you try to adjust the turbo power limits it locks your CPU to a 5W power draw max!!! Hahaha.

May start a new thread where I try each option and report the effects?

Anyone else playin in there? Anyone brick their lappy yet?
    Who will be first?

Protip, F9 in bios will reset any hidden options u change!!

    Cheers!

What Bios is the best for performance and cooler temps?
Is it easy to backflash and any links to download the best version?
    Currently it’s on v1.05.
Not sure if to keep it here or change it to a better one.
Currently pressing FN+Q just changes profiles from Quiet, Balanced and High performance, don’t really notice if maxfans are enabled since changing profiles only briefly spool up the fans then settle down.
I guess I could backflash to v1.04 but can’t find any info on what it changes.

You are probably on the 9th gen I7, so I hear 1.03 is the bios for you to get max fans.

Someone posted that bios I believe, just google it.
