Hi I got my X220 last week. The one thing that I noticed when I put the X220 next to an HP Pavilion DM4 is that the display has a yellowish tint on it, even at full brightness.

I am wondering whether this is caused by itsmatte screen versus the HP's glossy screen. The white on the HP Pavilion DM4 is really white. Where as looking at the X220, I can see the white is a bit yellowish.

Does this mean I have a defective screen or does everyone else also experienced the same problem?

    Thanks!!!

Have you tried color calibrating the display? ;)

yea a lot of colour accurate displays arrive somewhat messed up, you need to callibrate them.

I didn't know you can calibrate a Laptop display since it doesn't have on screen setting control.

just use the intel display control panel.

compared to my NEC 30" graphics display, my X220 display was relatively color accurate out of the box but needed some slight tweaks to correct contrast and saturation.

Okay, after I messed around a bit with the Intel Graphic and Media Control Panel; I kind of see an improvement. I guess it's going to be a trial and error.

Beside this incorrect color calibration mess, I love everything about this laptop.

Thank you all for the quick responds!!!

HP LED screens always have a blue/purple tint to them. ..

My X220 has a slight red tint I feel.

Well, my T500's screen looks yellowish next to my X120e's, but it is because the latter's screen is too cold and blue--not because the former is color-inaccurate. You might find that it is your older HP that is actually more color-inaccurate ;)

Hi Erik. Just curious what settings you ended up with in the Intel control panel? Thanks

Don't have yellow tint here, but there is definitely burn-in issues with these screens. A fellow poster has the issue, I have the issue, and a colleague of mine has it as well.

Example: using Chrome for about ten minutes. There's faint horizontal lines where the taskbar and bottom of the tab bars were. Actually debating whether to return this unit.

i knocked contrast down to 40 and saturation down to -20.   individual colors were fine so i didn't tweak anything per channel.   my panel has no yellowing or odd color cast.

update: on a clean installation of windows server 2008 R2, no adjustments were needed.   apparently the preloaded INF profile is much too aggressive for this display.   as of right now i don't recommend installing the thinkpad monitor file on a clean install.
