My Yoga 13 battery, now about 14 months old and just off warranty, suddenly started acting very strangely. It was fine until about 2 weeks ago, when whenever I would unplug it, it would die immediately and would not recharge. It works fine when plugged in, though the indicator light blinked orange and it did not show a battery charge. Prior to this I was getting good battery life. I figured I needed a new battery.

Then suddenly, about a week ago, it looks like it recharged to 100% (going by the battery indicator). Now when I unplug it, it discharges normally to about 90% of normal within the first few minutes and then suddenly discharges to 6-7%, with a blinking orange indicator. This happens within a half hour or so of unplugging it.

When I plug it back in, the battery indicator says that it is fully charged within only a few minutes of plugging it in.

I generated a battery report via the command prompt, which I am including below. As you can see, when I unplugged it at 18:03 today (Oct 16), it had 100% charge with 47,730 mWh capacity. By 18:36 (33 minutes later) it was down to 7% and 3341 mWh capacity. The big drop happened all of a sudden- it was ok about 30 minutes after unplugging. I plugged it back in at 18:37 and when I checked it at 18:50, only 13 minutes later, it was back to 100% charged at 47,730 mWh capacity. This happens whenever I unplug the computer.

This is bizarre. Does anybody have any insight?

Do I need a new battery, or is it something else?

And if I need a new battery, has anybody experience trying to replace it themselves? If so, please relate your experience. There is very little about this online.

    Thanks.
