Has anyone safely removed the trial McAffee Virus software originally installed on the Yoga 2 Pro and set up the free Microsoft firewall and Windows Defender virus protection provided in Windows 8.1.

I called Lenovo Support for advice and they said that removing McAffee could leave unremoved files on the computer that may cause future problems with software. They wanted me to spend $89 to get help from software specialists to be sure all files are removed. I did not ask for McAffee--they should simply provide me with a program to remove it safely.

Can anyone provide the steps necessary to safely remove McAffee and set up the free Microsoft firewall and antivirus?
    Thanks

I just got rid of it and I'm running the programs that you mentioned with zero issues. No big deal.

I did the same last night. Uninstall went smoothly and no more annoying McAfee pop-ups. Defender suits my purposes just fine.
