Just picked up the Yoga 710 11.6" with Kaby Lake i5-7y54 today.
I've been a huge iPad guy as my go-to device when I leave for work and need a quick pick up data researching/browsing, RDP/vpn device for work.. But lately using an ipad for work/RDP sessions have been extremely annoying.. Sold off my previous iPad Pro 12.9 and used that money and picked this up (for cheaper than I sold my Ipad Pro for).
So far the performance of the new Kaby Lake i5-7y54 has been pretty impressive.. It feels like it has the same power as my work issued Surface Pro 4 with i5-6200U. You might be wondering why I just don't use my work issued SP4.. but I simply leave it docked at my desk and never feel like taking it outside of work with me.. Plus it's work property and I don't want to keep any personal data on it.
Anyways, if you want to know anything about it, let me know! I'll be posting up some HWInfo and some benches and heat testing.. So far just updating Windows and installing applications, there's a tiny warm spot on the bottom of the unit (being fanless it's doing well).
It came out of the box with 55% battery and it's been on and have been using it for 1.5 hours so far and it's down to 41%.. seems pretty good just based on that small amount of data.
Downside #1 so far for me is the paltry 128gb ssd.. And while I removed the screws from the bottom to attempt to open it.. It seemed pretty sealed up still so I put the screws back in.. Hoping there's a m2 slot in there we can swap to a larger one though.
I also owned about a year ago the first generation Apple Macbook 12 with baseline specs (broadwell Y series) and found that unit to be a little too underpowered for the price you pay. So far this Yoga 710 11.6 at nearly half the price is providing much more bite.
Keyboard is fabulous.. It's fullsized where it matters.. with the only annoying is the placement of the right shift key which is two keys over from where i'm used to using right shift. But I can get used to that.. Not having backlit keys is a slight bummer but i'm a pretty quick typist so I know where the keys are immediately and never really need to look.. Only if I need to change the brightness or use F keys it might be harder to do so without backlighting.
Update #1: There's literally NO bloat on these machines.. Only like two Lenovo utilities (which are probably required for the 2-in-1 pieces).. It's really clean, probably the first machine i've seen that didn't make want to immediately format and install my own Windows on it.

Just charged it from 0% to 100%.. 2 hours and 25 minutes. Not bad! Lines up with some of the other high end ultra books.

Thanks for making this thread. Living in Japan this is the cheapest Kaby Lake Core M with 8GB of RAM and a decent display that is not over $1000USD.
Laptops are so overpriced here but strangely enough for around the same price our 8GB model comes with a 256GB module for the SSD.
Here is a disassembly of the Skylake model: http://laptopmedia.com/highlights/i...isassembly-internal-photos-and-upgrade-guide/
But I imagine that the Kaby Lake should be very similar. The SSD should be slotted.
I hope to hear more impressions about this machine. Until the 13" 720 comes out, this is the device I will most likely purchase.Diversion likes this.
