    I'm trying to choose between a $999 Samsung ATIV 9 Plus (i5, 4gb ram, 128gb sd)
or spend $200 more for a Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro from BB, (i7, 8gb ram, 256gb sd).

now that some time has passed, anyone regret going for the Yoga 2 over the samsung?

This decision was easy for me :) I needed the Yoga tablet mode so I got the Yoga. If you don't need the tablet, I'd say don't spend the extra money.

I have the Yoga2 Pro you describe and I'm happy with it. Screen resolution is amazing and the laptop is incredibly lightweight and compact. For the $200 you are getting a better CPU, twice the RAM, and twice the SSD.

My main issue is that some apps like Adobe Photoshop do not implement font scaling correctly so the software is nearly unusable on the high resolution screens on both the Samsung and the Y2 Pro (both screens are made by Samsung).

This is a software issue that may or may not be fixed by Adobe (or Microsoft?) in the foreseeable future. Curiously Adobe Lightroom scales fine, so I will probably migrate to Lightroom for photo organization and editing. Most of my other apps seem fine (MS Office 2013, Quicken, games like StarCraft and Call of Duty 4, Google Chrome, iTunes). A few utilities like the command window and remote desktop also have small fonts, but I don't use them often so I'm living with the limitation.

Another issue is that the auto screen brightness causes distracting screen brightness variations, but you can turn off auto brightness to stop the variation (you can manually adjust the brightness using the F11 and F12 keys).

A 128 GB SSD is not nearly large enough IMHO. 256GB is much better, and 512 would be even better, but Lenovo charges too much for that option. Keep in mind that the OS takes about 20GB and there are also hidden recovery partitions and a backup driver partition that use another 20GB. Plus you will use even more space once you install your software and data. If you have a lot of music and photos that can easily use another 50 to 100 GB or even more. I've turned my old desktop into a file server and I'm now keeping all my media files there. I then just make a few of them available offline if I want to use them while away from home.

Have you checked shop.lenovo.com? They have discounts all the time and upgrades and options not available through BB; like more configuration options, orange color (which I have and really like) instead of gray, and 3 year extended warranty with accidental damage coverage for around $150.

Please post what you eventually decide to buy and how you like it.

There is also a version of theY2P with the same specs for the same money as the Samsung. I chose the i7, 8gig, 256 SSD
    Y2P for 2 primary reasons.
    - Tablet and Tent mode. Tent mode is actually more useful than I thought it would be.
    - Lenovo is not selling their PC business Samsung is getting out of computers. I would like support for a while.
