How heavy is your laptop? Are you able to carry it everywhere without any problems?

I am a student and was wondering if the new t410 will be too heavy to carry around all day.

I got a 3kg laptop, when you carry a laptop with that weight in a backpack you should notice it but its not that bad.

I've got a T400 w/ a 9 cell. I'm assuming when saying this that the T410 will not be a major departure in the weight department. I find my T400 very portable, it is maybe 5-6lbs and found it very easy to carry to class. It is about the size surface wise as an average hardcover text book just not as thick.

Personally, I would recommend going with a T410s or an x200 if you plan on carrying it around frequently.

The T410 will certainly be portable (5-6 lbs. depending on battery), but the T410s will be under 4 lbs. and the x200 can be as low as 3 lbs. To me, the increased portability is worth the slight price increase and minimal performance downgrade.

    Spot on. :)

My T61 at 6 pounds is kinda heavy with the adapter even though I do enjoy the bigger screen estate.

If you are worried about weight I would recommend you to look into the T410s, T400s or even better the X200(s) if you are not insisting on a 14" screen. If you are a 3D gamer, you will obviously not enjoy the integrated graphics of i.e the X-series, but other than that they all come with powerful CPUs and internals.

Edit: I see others beat me to it, while I was idling my response :)

For me a laptop to carry around should certainly not be over 3.3 pounds or so ...if just for school get an X200 or even a X100e ... I need to fly a lot and anything that makes my hand luggage lighter is perfect.

My T500 with the 9-cell battery is around 6 and a quarter pounds, which I feel is a bit heavy to be carrying around all day. I have more issues with the size (footprint) of it rather than the weight, though.

My T61p weights about about 6.3 lbs But I belive that's before the battery. So add a nine cell battery and that about 2 lbs more them add a charger and that about 1.5 lbs. Then add about 1.5 pounds for a bag and that cames to a grand total of Ekkk that's close to 10 pounds.

My thinkpad is about ~6 lbs or so with the charger, not too bad.

My HP comes pretty close to 10Lbs with the charger, it's a huge difference.

And I carry both of them everywhere.

I commuted to school with a 5lb laptop + charger everyday, plus maybe a folder or a notebook and a novel. Found it too much and now am shooting for something with netbook weight and battery life so I can drop the charger.

But maybe that's just me, I'm pretty lazy and want to travel lighter.

you are becoming more like a road warrior, actually that sort of aspiration is quite common for people whom have their large laptop with them constantly.... New netbooks are great, due to the low price and the substantial battery life.

Nokia had a netbook at CES that claimed to have 12hrs+ battery life with the whole bottom of the netbook being the battery.

T400s, 4.5 lbs including the charger. My friend carries a T400 around campus all the time though and I haven't heard him complain.

The booklet 3G if you mean that one. They didn't do any advertising about it at CES.

Get the smallerst battery and integrated GPU ortherwise you will get arthritis later in life. T400's if like the T61 are heavy if you have to carry it around all day the if your get discrete it will also come with the largeest AC adaptor. You can get a smaller one but will have to buy it seperately.

Eleven or Twelve pounds, I have no trouble carrying it since it weighs about as much as one of my books. In the end it all comes down to what you are personally comfortable carrying

Yeah, I didn't say anything on that.
I was just saying Nokia didn't do any advertising on that one, which is strange.

Being one of those crazy people that willingly carry 10lbs+ 17in laptops around, I will say that the t410 will be just fine.

My T61p + charger comes in at around 6.5-7lb (6-cell battery). This is my only computer and I carry it to school and back daily with no problems. For convenience sake though, a smaller laptop like an X200 would make for easier storage in lockers or other such places.

Pssh.. Lighter than my Bio textbook. Man that thing weighed like a tank.
If you are lugging those stuckers around, a laptop shouldn't seem so heavy ;)
